timothy trotter we can't give you advice if you don't tell us who is in your party. Also, are we talking about "normal" SOA Final Boss or Improved version of it? Try to do a search on it.

Also, where are you? There are several Irenicus fights in different places.

'Run away' works great for the first couple of rounds...

Keldorn's vicious dispel might also be quite useful here. And Spell Immunity: Necromancy is quite good idea as well.

I suggest you do a search on it. Other then that buff with Stoneskin, Remove Fear, Armor of Faith etc...
Use potions you think that could be useful.

The fight at the Tree of Life isn't all that hard if you've taken your time waltzing through Amn. Make sure you buff up (already mentioned in this thread) before attempting the fight, summon some critters (Fire Elemental, Monster Summoning 3, Kitthix for instance) to absorb most of the damaging spells Irenicus lets loose upon you. Also make sure you know what you're capable of! Check out your party's special abilities, spells to see what you can use to damage Irenicus. Damaging spells most likely will have no effect until you dispell Irenicus' protections (use spells such as Dispel Magic, Breach and Pierce Magic). Good luck!

Yes, breach is a lifesaver and only level 5 so you're bound to have a few. Improved haste for your fighters as well - kill him in half the time. And yes, this is the time to buff - your PC has finally tracked down his tormentor - he won't be pulling any punches.

This fight is actually supposed to be pretty easy--BioWare didn't exactly go all-out on Jon's AI in this one. It sounds to me like you're simply unfamiliar with the intricacies of the Wizard spell system (quite understandable, given the number of people who've gone weirder than a wooden watch trying to comprehend it)....and with a Sorcerer and a Kensai->Mage in your party, being unfamiliar with the Wizard spells is NOT a good thing.

Therefore, even after you've beaten this fight, Reload and beat it again. And again. Learn how to evade this, and how to block that.

A couple of humorous ways to win this fight:
1) Get Keldorn and/or your Monk as much Magic Resistance stuff as you can. Turn off their AI and have them just stand there. Sit back and giggle.
2) Cast Monster Summoning I. Cast Summon Hakeashar. Sit back and giggle.
