I barely started SoA, and then decided I should have ToB and run the whole thing. I continued after I loaded ToB. Since then, I have consistantly clicked the SoA side when I bring up the game. Am I actually playing ToB, and Watchers Keep will become available at some future time? Or do I need to specifically click on ToB to get into it?

You're playing SoA. Watcher's Keep will be made available at some future time... but I suggest you wait until your party is at about level 14 before you venture over there. It's rough.

Snark,
Yep, just to echo Illumina's comments, you're almost certainly still in SoA. Once you complete SoA, there will be a lot of video footage and what-not, and you will automatically begin the ToB part. It's pretty apparent that you've moved into the expansion program when it happens. There is one area that is common to both SoA and ToB ... and as Illumina's noted, this is the Watcher's Keep dungeon; it's outside the city of Athkatla. And again to repeat the above advice, a new player probably shouldn't race into this dungeon too quickly (although checking out the equipment that Sister Garlena offers for sale is OK - Sister Garlena is outside the entrance of Watcher's Keep). I too first started BG2 with both SoA and ToB installed, and was also somewhat confused initially by the start-up screen. While I'm dishing out advice, it is highly recommended that you install the Throne of Bhaal official patch, and afterwards the Baldurdash ToB fixpack if you have yet to do so. These will lead to a smoother playing experience. [ 08-09-2005, 11:54 PM: Message edited by: Cam_H ] |

Small spoiler:
Thanks. I hadn't realized it was linear, unlike Tales of the Sword Coast. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'm sure I couldn't afford her rates. I'm still schlepping swords and bows back to town from the Windspear Hills. I want to be able to do magic in town without running afoul of the power structure. The Throne of Bhaal expansion component is much more linear than the Shadows of Amn component that you're dealing with now. Personally I don't find SoA particularly linear - there's a main quest to follow in SoA (and if you choose to avoid it for an extended period you might start to struggle getting higher level mage scrolls) but I tend to find that there's plenty of options in Chapters 2 and 3 (refer to your journal for Chapter numbers).
You'll find fewer alternate paths in the Throne of Bhaal section, and the few side-quests tend to be much shorter. Best of luck with Windspear Hills! [ 08-10-2005, 02:09 AM: Message edited by: Cam_H ] |

My guess, then, is that you haven't completed The Hills? Um.. If you're still at a bow-schlepping phase, heed the following advice: You can choose to walk away from the final encounter there, and it will be waiting for you when you are powerful enough to finish the job. There's no shame in that. And might I suggest seeking out Renal Bloodscalp and Nalia in the Copper Coronet, if you haven't already? Those quests are relatively easy and provide an excellent source of income.

Possible nalia spoiler.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. I've already run Nalia's quest and lost her to her fiance. I've been running with 5 characters for the meantime. I don't think the Paladin at the Copper is very interested in joining a party led by an evil assassin.

Few things in this game are lost permanently. You can get her back. Just do some snooping... Check your journal if you need help.

He's not a Paladin, he's a Paladin 'wanna be'! He's actually a Fighter dual classed over to a Cleric. Despite being pretty annoying, he's a fairly powerful NPC (but I guess they all are in their own ways). With that said, you might be settled with the party you have.
If you see value in adding a Fighter-Cleric NPC, perhaps you might work your evil ways by corrupting him away from his unnatural interest in the Nancy Boys over at the Radiant Heart? ![]() |
