Rookie: Back Stab Q's

Hi all,

Please bear with me...I know this will sound like a lame question.

Is all you have to do to backstab an enemy is hide in shadows and then just land a hit with a non-blunt weapon. I have a skald bard and have yet to backstab with him (mostly out of ignorance for how it's done). Also, can any character class backstab?

Longswords, short swords, daggers for sure. Wakisashi/Ninja-to, too (maybe scimitar?). No pole arms at all. Don't know about katana. Hope that helps!

You have to be hidden, and attack the enemy from behind with a thief sharp weapon, then you get your backstab. Of course the blow has to land, and it only counts on the first blow.
Any characters can backstab, but they only get the 1x modifier, so basically its just a regular attack sorry. Only the classes who get greater modifiers (thieves x5, assassins up to x7 or x9) can actually use backstab as a offensive weapon.

I don't know if Bards can even use backstab modifiers. Just look at your profile and it will show you if you get a backstab modifier. Chances are your bard is trying to backstab, and is suceeding, but only doing normal damage because, well, that is all he can do.
