normally i detest people who dont even play through a game once before they're asking "where do i..." and "what should i..." but i have a feeling once i finish ToB i will set the whole bg series aside as "completed", so i'm not feeling too hypocritical

currently im in chap3 in SoA with minsc, mazzy, aerie, and viconia. just for the new dialog and interaction i want to eventually include sarevok and of course i will have imoen as my main mage (im an elven f/t). right, thats seven people. so, romances aside, only vicky and imoen are my must haves. without telling me anything specific, is sarevok going to be able to replace minsc without many problems? i was considering dropping minsc or mazzy but i love mazzy with her bow, and aerie is already leveling off spellwise (which is an organizational nightmare scrolling through all those spells).

comments and suggestions welcome. spoilers are not .

next, just how tough is watcher's keep? i took a party of four into the top level and while those statues were very tough, we survived. im going to do nalia's keep (for the flail... hell i might just grab the flail and leave ) and trademeet (shield of harmony) and then go get imoen, which leaves just firkraag in soa. can watcher's keep be interspersed with these without A. getting my arse kicked or B. becoming too powerful that the SoA quests lose their challenge?

DUMP Mazzy her bow is worthless in ToB and she is a wimp
don't get me wrong Because I liked useing her in SoA but
ToB will kill her over and over again

Sarevok is an excellent fighter! I would kick out Minsc but Sarevok is a chaotic evil character and so I have drop my reputation(grrr...)
As for Watcher's Keep it is one of my favourite dungeons in game (which means it is tough!)and I entered it in TOB because I was not powerful enough in the of SOA!

Well, Sarevok for me is a must-have. Why? Because some of the kick-ass weapons you get in the end of SoA will be at his disposal, namely the Wave and the Vorpal sword. And belive me, the vorpal sword an him works wonders!

And, if you something right, he might just be converted

Well, I think your thief will kick ass, coz of the use item, and the fighters highlevel skills will pump it up... Imoen is a must for all her cute dialogues... Viconia and Sarevok make a great pair too... wehehehe

If I were you do WK at ToB, there you can get some items that weren't normally there when done in SoA...

I've done both, and I'd suggest doing Watcher's Keep after finishing SoA. Gives you that much more to do and more time for interactive dialogue with your group in ToB. SoA is long enough by itself, you want to leave yourself with lots to do in ToB. It gets a LOT tougher than that top level, btw. Lots of abyssal and infernal foes still to come. Some of the lower-level battles will be harder than anything else you'll face in SoA, except for maybe the final SoA chapter. On the plus side, if you survive, you will have enough XP to breeze through SoA and will probably have some hi-po weapons as a result. Good luck, whichever way you go.

sevarok is an awesome character... he's not as nice a minsc... but who cares. minsc does have cleric spells that come in handy occasionally, but sevarok is a strong fighter. and with his crazy amount of hit points (18 constitution) he'll last in a long fight. in my game he'll sometimes use the deathbringer assault (?) and do 200 damage in one hit...

thx for the responses.

ive got imoen now and replaced mazzy with valygar because i prefer my archer to have stealth even if he doesnt have grandmastery (and will get the hill giant belt so he can use the heartseeker bow), and he'll be a monster dual wielding CF and anything else. vicky will get crom. aerie will stay because ive discovered how nice it is to fire off spell combos with her and imoen (greater malison + lower resistance, emotion + chaos, etc). minsc is definitely getting replaced by sarevok. his cutesy-ness is getting old as is his constant "we are heroes blah blah blah". plus i'd like to see what someone with 5 slots in 2H sword can do.

i'll save the rest of WK for post-chapter 7. i don't know how extensive the interactions are and i dont want to miss anything.

p.s. is my reputation going to be a problem with sarevok?

I started ToB with a Reputation of 20 and finished it with the same. It would have been much higher, but 20 is the max. Saravok complained a little, but no more than Jaheira, and neither left the party. I think that's more of an issue with SoA than ToB.

I could be wrong, but that's how it worked for me.
