Just started ToB and I'm wondering what weapons are worth pursuing? I've read about a +6 Ravager halberd.. Just trying to plan ahead as far as proficiency points are concerned. I know that imp in the pocket plane can make things ala Cromwell the dwarf in SoA. Spoilers ok...

Well, if you had The Holy Avenger, you can upgrade it to plus 6!!!!!!! It's really a geat item, I've gotten 60 damage on critical hits. Also, you can get the Purifier, another paladin item. Quiver of plenty +1, and +2 are great, they give you unlimited +2 arrows and +1!

I have Keldorn in my party wielding the Holy Avenger - I'll definitely be upgrading it.
Also have Anomen dual-weilding Crom Faeyr and Flail of Ages (I understand that I can upgrade the Flail too?) Minsc is dualing the Celestial Fury and Equalizer, but I wonder if he'd be better off using the Silver Sword? hmmm... |

I'd definitely say that Minsc wielding the Vorpal Sword is far more lethal than him dual-wielding Celestial Fury and the Equalizer (though both are fine swords...)
instant death is a godsend in some of the fights you have to face in ToB....

Flail of Ages can upgraded to +4, then +5. You need to find other flail heads to upgrade the Flail of Ages. The fourth head is poison, the fifth head is electricity.
Flail Heads Location Spoiler, ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Poison Head: Found in the poison pool in the poison chamber on the second level of Watcher's Keep. Electricity Head: Loot from killing Abazigal. |

Be aware that the Eye of Tyr (and some other stuff used to upgrade items) can be used to upgrade more than one item. You'll have to choose what you want upgraded.

I would prefer to upgrade the Purifier, using the Eye of Tyr.
The Eye of Tyr adds only +1 to Carsomyr's THACO bonus and damage. The Eye of Tyr upgrades the Purifier to a +5 weapon( can hit anything, same as Carsomyr), adds another 10% to the Purifier's base of 20% Magic Resistance, adds the ability to cast Dispel Magic twice a day and Mass Healing once a day. Lastly, it also means +1 more damage to Chaotic Evil targets( +4 to +5). Not bad, for a one-handed weapon, add a good shield, and that means an AC bonus of 5, shield abilities excluded. The Purifier can only be used by Paladins and Thieves( Use Any Item) by the way. |
