So I had this wacky idear... since the Kensai can't wear armor, why not make one then dual class it to a wizard! (it gives me tingles). So I made the Kensai, human, male, true neutral but the "dual class" button is faded out. I have never tried to make a dual class character before so I am unsure how to do it exactly. Can someone give me a quick explanation?

Tech problem: Ever since I installed ToB (and the most recent official patch of course) I have been unable to play SoA. When I try to start a SoA game I get the screen that says "Insert CD2" but it IS inserted! I have never had this problem before, and I was playing SoA before I got the expansion.

Thanks for your help,
JJ

I don't know about that tech prob of yours, but for dual-classing there are certain stat-requirements. You need 15 minimum in the prime requisite for your starting class (Fighter in your case: STR) and 17 in the prime req for the class you dual to (Mage: INT). So your character should have at least 15 STR and at least 17 INT. Do you meet these?

SONOFA! Ok, I think I see the problem, I gave him 18 int knowing he was going to become a mage. But I only put 9 in his str because I was just going to wear a belt. doh, DOH! well, it looks like the character editor for me, THANKS!!! Now if I can only get SoA to work.....

Jimmy,

You have an "alias" problem in the paths specified in your .ini file which is pointing to the wrong place.

Check out this thread on the black isle troubleshooting board. I think this will solve your problem!

Check this out as well ... posted by Kevin Lynch of Bioware on the Bioware forums:

"If you have a full install, it shouldn't be looking for CDs at all, except during startup. I assume, then, that that is what you mean. You can use any of CDs 2, 3, or 4 to start SOA alone.

After a full install, all those drive letters in the baldur.ini file should point to the HD where you have the game installed. None should point to the CD drive. It sounds to me (in my non-expert way) that your drive letter associations are messed up somehow. If you go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager and select your CD drive's properties, you'll find a drive association under the Settings tab. Make sure that it is pointing to 'your hard drive partition where TOB is installed':.

If that isn't your problem, try putting other CDs in the drive (CD3 or CD4) to start the game to see if it can find those. It may just be a glitch with CD2."

AT LAST! Some one saw the light! Kensai mage is practically the best choice! Especially when you get past level thirty, everyone dies easily from one or two attacks and the tough guys are easily dealt with by casting time stop.

The only bad thing is that some enemies still move during time stop! Fortunately these enemies are few and although tough to hit have little HP.

Kensai mage is cheese, just like a Kensai thief (even pre-use any item if you had the experience cap removed... LOOK OUT! Oh man, they was ridiculously mean backstabs...). If you think your kensai mage is all that, I'd love to see you try to slow down an enraged Half-Orc Barbarian that played from SoA through to ToB... He needs the appropriate equipment of course, but that is one MEAN killing machine. Human Leather, Defender of Easthaven and Flail of the Ages... This means stoneskin isn't much of a delay... 10 elemental damage! lol, and 5 different kinds making resistance less annoying... Ohh.... I really MUST try that out as a solo...

Thanks, Ill try your tips for fixing my CD issue.

More on Kensai/Mage: I thought this character had all the bases covered. I have to waste all my 2nd level spells on knock, but thats cool. Then I thought about all the traps between me and the last chapter! Luckily my character is neutral so his familiar is a super fast rabbit with thief skills!!! He doesn't get every trap, but its a few K more exp for the ones he can. Unfortunalty my thumbless friend seems incappable of picking locks... oh well, sleep and knock, sleep and knock....
