Ok. My question is what party should i have if going with monk. Iam afraid of not having enough mages in party. I have just arrived at promenade and dont know what to do. Maybe the problem with me is that I dont like anything that has something to do with magic. Why? Thats simple everytime i cast confusion they save. If they cast i dont save and iam dead. And what was that about hitting a casting mage and he would forget what he was doing. I hit a mage that casted fireball threetimes. 2xArrow+4 1xsword. It was even down written that he was hit. But what happened. Nothing. He casted it. BUT this dont work for my characters. YES fair-game. I thought about starting a shapeshifter. Is there someone who played him and knows if it is a hard class or not?

You don't really need a mage. It's very handy if you have one, but not truly neccessary. If you have some very good fighters, it's well possible to finish the game without a mage, it's all in the tactics you use. It would be a bit hard to dispel enemy wizards' protections, magi are very good at that and obviously a fighter or other class can't do that. But not at all impossible. If I were you, I'd get one mage in my party, and experiment a bit with the spells. Who knows, maybe you'll get over your dislike of magic. Word of advice: don't rely on Confusion. That spell sucks, IMHO.

A party without magic? Sounds interesting. But magic solves most problems during the game. But there's good spells and bad spells. Confusion is a useless spell in my opinion. But when you burn the trolls with aganzar's scorcher, stun a powerful opponent with chromatic orb, dispel the protection of powerful mages, and send a fireball to the center of 12 monsters and then watch them burning you'll get the taste of the magic. Magic is power. Specially Clerical..

I would say just keep with your char, because Monk's get to be fairly powerful...And if you dont like magic, your in a heap of trouble man..have fun against liches, dragons, vampires...

hmm. Solo Monk lvl 18. VS Lord Jierdan Firkraag.

One hit.

Draw you own conclusion on how necessary magic is.

Regard saves - you start with crap save, its a fact.low-level monsters tend to have very good saves realtive to their power - this is so that theres a point to them having saves at all. you get decent saves later on - most chars will have all saves below zero before too long. if your playing a monk - well let me tell you a story.

a mage, named conster, had a load of stoneskins up. while i beat them down, he threw three lightning spells at me, rebounding them off a wall so each one hit me twice. 6 strikes then. 6 six saves for magic resistanc more like. no damage whatsoever. i LOVE monks.

I don't know if you played BG1 but the importance of magic has gone up a great deal. I don't agree with the fact that you could complete the game without magic (it would be extremely hard to say the least. Without having cirtain spells at your disposal (I am talking breach specifically here) you will get slaughtered over and over (i don't mean to put any pressure on you or anything!!!). Get a mage, your dislike of magic will diminish as soon as you get access to some higher level spells!
