Ok question for all you experienced types....This is my first time thru and at the beginning I had no idea about necessary stats so I just made my PC using the first roll....no stat better than 13 and INT 10...for a mage! so I have a weak, stupid mage. My question is, will this cause problems later? I've done all the Ch2 quests, Twisted Rune etc and got a lot of stat boosting items etc

The only "problems" you will have is that your chances of scribing spells are less and you cannot put too many spells per level in your spell book. But anyway, there are these potions of Genius around, which raise your int for a while. And then there is no problem with the spell limit anymore.
Ah, and one thing: I think, the really high level spells 7?, 8 and 9 are only available, if you have a certain int value (at least IIRC). This would be a major problem however... [ 02-18-2002: Message edited by: Chris77Se ] |

Following the official D&D rules, your character would be considered about average and more than capable of handling most situations.
In BG, such stats mean that your character is one of the weaker ones, not because it has any penalties but because it has none of the bonusses. Your maximum weight allowance is not that high, you don't get a bonus on your rolls to hit, or to wound, and so on. What makes a problem for you is that your mage has a low inteligence, meaning he cannot learn that many spells. Although you should be able to get by, certainly wiht the other partymembers backing your character up, it'll be a lot harder than had you rolled better scores. In a way, your means of character creation are more fun, and more suitable. Instead of an overpowered character, yours is a normal human, making the game both more of a challenge and more 'realisitc'. On the other hand, you will find it a lot easier to go back, reroll for a while and then assign points to intelligence mostly, followed by dexterity, wisdom and strength. So yesm you'll have some problems, but they are by no means insurmountable. |
