The Impaler!

Don't know why we don't hear more about this +3 Spear+10. Valygar with 2 proficiency slots in Spear and 19 Strength (girdle) on the average does 27hp damage. Viconia has Crom Faeyr which gives 25 strength yet she does an average 26hp. She has only 1 proficiency which means she doesn't get the +2 that Valygar gets on the spear. On the other hand 25 strength gives +14 damage versus 19 strength which only gives +7 damage. Valygar specialized proficiency hardly compensates for the extra +7 damage of 25 strength yet the Impaler does more damage. I've never had much trouble with most Golems so that feature of Crom Faeyr doesn't make much difference.

Sorry, no Paladin so I have no experience with Carsomyr. But if its +5 damage +5 for Chaotic Evil, the total +10 would compare to The Impaler+10.

My Half-orc fighter has natural strength 22 (as if I went through BG1) and uses the anti-Ullithid weapon, forget what it is called but it is +5. With a critical hit I caused 64 dammage. Not bad, eh? On average he causes about 30 some-odd dammage.

Nope!
the Impaler sure is nice, but only a +3 weapon. My weapons of choice would be the Staff of Rynn (my PC is a fighter/mage) if THACO and Damage were the only concerns. Yet I bid you not to forget about the numerous magic side effects of great weapons like Crom Faeyr, Soul Reaver, Carsomyr, Staff of the Magi, Gesen Bow or even Lilarcor that cannot be matched by the Impaler primitive brute force.

The Psion Blade protections are very appealing; I don't have any numerical way to factor in the benefits of protections but they certainly count. However, Psion is +5, versus +13 for the Impaler (calling it +3 is not accurate, more like +3+10).

Soul Reaver looked great except Good Alignments can't use it - very limiting. I have both Lillacor and Gesen Bow. Prefer the Silver Blade save against death chance on each hit over Lilacor's prevention of confusion.
