O.k. finished the 'iron crisis' in the nashkel mines. I came out, and a few of my players were ready to level up; My character, imoen, and khalid. I level up myself and imoen, and everything is fine. I level up khalid, and i found out that his saving throws get worse!!!

As a level one fighter, his saving throws were:
14
11
13
15
12

and after i leveled him up, he had

14
16
15
17
17

He got worse!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!! Why?????? why??..?...?.......

I can't say that I've ever noticed, but that may be because I never take the annoying b*gger long enough! That certainly is strange. Without checking to see his .CRE file (I believe that's where they're stored) I can't really say. You didn't have any spell effects or items running that you might have changed? That sort of thing shouldn't really do it I know, but you never know.

It would certainly explain alot about Khalid's performance though.

nope. nothin at all. He's just standing there, no spells, no enchantments, all the normail stuff. a bow, splint mail, a helmet, and a long sword. no rings or anything. AHHHHH!!! You can just go ahead and slot khalid right along next to kobolds.

That is odd. Very odd. Possibly the designers intended him to get some massive bonus but never explained the rules to the work experience boy

Those first level save numbers seem way too low. The second level numbers seem about right. I don't know why or how your mishap occurred, but I sugest to just keep on playing and see what happens next level.

Well, we all know Khalid is a weak fighter, or atleast me. For a fighter, he has to many morale breaks and panics too much. It pisses me off.

The question is, if BG follows the core 2nd Ed rules, the first set of stats aren't even valid for a fighter. The second set of 14, 16, 15 etc, are for fighters in the Level 1-2 category.

Maybe the designers thought that Khalid wouldn't survive the player's assault once they'd seen that bad boy in action for the first time! If he survived that, they might of thought that you'd keep him on the books and restructure his saves properly.

Well, i started a new game, new character, rushed past everything, and made a rather quick dash do the friendly arm inn. Talk to khalid and jaheira, blah blah, blah, long story short, his stats were
14
11
13
15
12

unreasonably high for a first level fighter. Now i'm confused as to how someone can start off with such high saving throws. i just don't get it. Do you think it's designed this way, or that it's a game flaw? And i haven't had a chance to play khalid very far into the game. Has anyone else seen this anomoly, and whether or not his saves ever get that good later in the game?

Amen Lord Brass, I have to admit that although I am usually a Kahlid fan and was carrying him with me throughout my game, I do have to admit that with the inception of the all thief party that my party is much more pleasant to play with. With Kahlid and Jaheria out of the picture.

Khalids saving throws on his maximum (7th?) level with normal equipment:

10
12
11
12
13

Maybe its just a small flaw in game design.
