patch and gold

i ran the patch download after falling in a "hole" in toad village. the patch does not fix that problem completely. it also does not affect your ability to double gold. i can still double gold faster and easier than playing lotto. some of the posts here about the gold doubling are wrong and would be slower than this method. if you want the "Here is a the fastest easiest way to make money spoiler! ! ! !" i will be happy to post it, just ask.

I guess editing a savegame file is still faster?
I finally did that after always being short of cash. Game doesn't seem very well balanced in
that regard; things cost too much (e.g.,identifying and high level training) compared to the
small amounts you get in treasure. You might get $2000 for a quest and then spend $100,000 on
training.

i've never edited the game. although the loss of skills has me tempted. i think this doubler would be faster still.

I would like to hear about the fastest easiest way to make money spoiler...

the Inn cheat as it works for me:
1. pool gold to bottom character for convenience.
2. enter armory (or temple, or whatever)
3. leave armory
4. enter Inn
5. pool gold to top character
6. remove bottom chartacter
7. leave Inn
8. enter Inn
9. add the same character
10. pool gold to bottom character for convenience.
11. leave Inn
12. enter armory
13. leave armory...
lather, rinse, repeat

BE CAREFUL, if you remove the character with the cash before you visit the armory, it all goes away! ! !

it is fast like backing out of a character, once you get the pattern. the gold doubles each time so you can create enough to finish the whold game in like two minutes. everything is so much smoother after that since you don't have to bother with what falls to the ground in every fight. also you can do this with the first 2 characters you roll-up, so you do not have to wait till Ishaditown for the profitable loot.

i may not have installed the patch properly. i did follow the instructions provided. as for changing characters mid-speach with the NPCs, i think i can, but the path of conversation does not stop. the npc finishes every conversation once it starts. unless i start to ID stuff or something.

When you talk of doubling gold are you talking about the Inn cheat, because installing the patch definitely killed that option for me. If you are still using that one (Inn cheat), are you sure the patch has been properly installed - can you select different party characters in the shops before the proprieters stop there endless waffle, or must you wait for silence? Intersted to know.

Ah - a variation of the original unpatched gold cheat but with a few more steps involved!

That should prove handy to players who are looking to have the fun of training training training!! (not to mention the shopping!)

Yup Grey,
That's the Inn gold cheat all right, although you don't need to leave the Inn to keep adding the caharacter back and pooling the gold on the top character. If you're able to change characters in mid waffle in the shops then guess what - you haven't installed the patch.

Before patching, you can swap beteween several characters in the guilds and all that will happen is that the shopkeeper will have several lines of conversation going at the same time. You can ignore that conversation and enter the guild and conduct your business. After the patch, you can't select another character, or buy, or sell or enter a guild until all the waffle and opening speeches are out of the way.
