You should bring the holy book (tome of wisdom) to Jalantha Mistmyr before she will give you the scroll to cure the geas. How can I get the book back without killing everybody?

You can pick pocket.

However Jalantha Mistmyr and her cronies are evil so I do not believe you will lose any rep for killing anybody in the temple.

Although if you decide to rid the world of her evil make sure you do priest quest in the NW area first. His house his north of the museam.

No I don't get the book back if I pickpocket her. Only a gem and then she hasn't any valid items on her.

Looks like you are going to have to take it by force. You won't lose any rep.

when you go to deliver it just say that you want the geas removal scroll before you give her the book. She'll give you the scroll - and then just say that you don't have the book

She'll go hostile and then you can either fight and kill her (6000xp!) or just flee the temple *booh hiss*

A better question might be, "Is there a way I can get myself the Tome of Understanding without breaking my Evil roleplay?"

Yes, there is, but you need to apply some cheesy foreknowledge.

STEP 1: As soon as you enter BG City, go North and go to the NE section of town, where you'll meet Marek and Lothander. Gun them down in cold blood. Make *damn* sure you get Lothander, killing Marek is of secondary importance. Not only is it nicely Evil to walk into a new city and cheerfully murder practically the first 2 people you see, but it will also prevent the Poison quest from ever taking place.

STEP 2: Pickpocket the Tome of Understanding from Chauntalas Ulbright (something vaguely like that spelling) in the Temple of Tymora. Since Tymora is a Chaotic Good deity, stealing from her Priests would be an Evil act.

Hmmm!!

Am I the only one who pickpocketed her before talking to her (must be)??

I got both the scroll and the book but it wasn't the solution I really wanted. Well better then killing everyone.
