Your computer has at least 3 IP addresses. Only one of them is a local address you can use to connect across your LAN.
Go into a DOS box and type IPconfig /all. In among that data will be several IP addresses. The one you want is probably associated with adapter 1 (the second in the list). Your internet IP is either set up in your router or can be found by right clicking the connection icon in the bottom right, depending on what kind of connection you have. You dont want to use this address for a local game, but if you ever play across the internet you will need it.
