To Hit +0 !? That cant be right...

My Character is a level 6 fighter with the following stats

str 18/00
dex 18
con 12
int 12
wis 10
cha 14

He has 3 stars in both Large sword and Bow, but when using a composite long bow, he gets +0 to hit, as with his Varscona (1d8+2) he still gets +0 to hit, also, on the character screen, it says that he should be getting +3 to hit from strength alone and +6 damage, why is he not getting the 'to hit' bonus?

anyone?

(i dont know whether he's getting the damage bonus coz it doesnt tell you)

IIRC The bonuses from the weapon and your STR/DEX is calculated into your THAC0 and your Damage. The +X ? - Hmmm I've seen it like +1, but I do not remember if it was from a bless spell or it was from one of the weapons that gives +1 cold dmg.

The most simple way to see how other posters are doing their graphics and formatting is to press the quote button. You are then able to see the codes they use.

A Level 6 Fighter would have a base THAC0 of 15.
Your guy's 100) STR would add a -3 bonus with melee weapons, so your THAC0 should now be 12,
Add in your Mastery with Large Sword and your THAC0 is down to 10,
And finally tack on Varscona's +2 enchantment and your final THAC0 should be 8.

As for Bows....base THAC0 of 15, -2 for your Mastery in Bows....your 18 DEX adds another -2 bonus, and I believe unenchanted Comp. Longbows add a -1 THAC0 bonus = Your THAC0 should be 10.

Im not talking about THACO, ive played original D&D, thaco (to hit armour class 0) is What you would have to roll on a d20 (20 sided dice) to hit an enemy with an armour class of zero, so in a battle, if you have a thaco of 15, you would have to roll 15 (or more) against a 0 AC enemy, the 'to hit roll' is that roll, and your strength affects not only the damage you do, but can give a bonus to the actual to hit roll, it says i should be getting +3 to this roll, but im not. So if i roll a 12 'to hit' with 15 thaco, i should get +3, raising it to 15, therefore a hit, i dont know what my strength does to my THACO ( i dont think it does anyting) but i want to know why im not getting the +3 (as well as the bonus from my composite long bow and my Varscona)

Open up your Record screen and tell us what your Level 6 Fighter's THAC0 is, when he's holding Varscona.

Umm, are you saying that Baldurs gate doesnt give you bonuses to you ACTUAL TO HIT ROLL, but instead gives you an easier THACO to achieve with that roll?

Because if so... OOOOHHHHHHHHH! right, i see.

OK the THAC0 ability does not go towards your attack it goes towards your defense against somebodys hit on you. That is why you get the bonus with certian armours and it is treated like armour class in the fact that the lower it is the better! CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG!
