Ok.
Nessie is having loads of fun chopping me into tiny, tiny bits.
What level(s) should I be before I try and tackle her?
Any good anti-nessie strategies?
Is it absolutely necessary to fight her, or can she be avoided?
I'm getting tired of having a large hole stomped in my rectum by this refugee from a sardine factory!

I was about 15th level, on normal mode, and I killed her the first time through.

My special strategy was not to use a special strategy. Her melee attacks aren't as bad as her breath weapon, so just go toe to toe, and cast heal all and rest all every other round. It took forever, but I was healing faster than she could dish it out. Good luck.

Canned elementals, heal all, fighter(s) with Bloodlust or something, and armorplate + magic shield. Enchanted blade helps, too.
Get all the disabling spells you can muster... if you can land one on her its not as hard.
Oddly enough, my ranger was the only one consistently hitting for any damage... Try armormelt, too. Hmm... eye for an eye works fairly well, but since its single-target only your caster is gonna have to waste several turns putting it on people if you want to use it.

Oh, also, if you're not a difficulty wank, try setting it to novice mode. (difficulty wank being someone who doesn't consider themselves worthy if they beat a game on less than optimal or at least reccomended difficulty.)

Ok, I give. Where is everyone getting these canned elementals? They sound really useful!

I found one in the starter dungeon, the Monastery. Not sure what to do with it, my party stashed it and forgot about it until we ran into a collective set of groups of about 20 Juggernauts on the Trynton road. We soon found out that (combined with Hypnotic Lure) saved our butts!

I think they're random, but are a bit more frequent when played at higher difficulty levels (coming from a "Difficulty Wank" here )

At level 15 I did about 4 damage to Nessie before she wiped out my party

Elementals do rule. I had a fight vs like 18+ Rattkins in the tree... cast elemental + bonus spells ( bless, armorplate, etc. ) then kept healing the elemental + firing arrows... lost about 6 HP total for the group from Rattkin snipers

About Elementals, you dont need canned Elementals, they are useful yes, but your Wizard can make them to and its pratice, and pratice is the most useful thing in the world

Well, I finally beat her. I just needed a few more levels under my belt before I attempted it. I was 12-ish before, and that just didn't cut it. (That's what I get for avoiding too many battles!) Now I'm 15-16-ish and I beat her. It wasn't easy, mind you. I lost 4 characters (not counting 2 elementals) in the attempt, but down she went after 40 or so rounds and my fighter at 2hp! It was.... dramatic, to say the least.

You can pickpocket Canned Elementals off quite a few npcs if you so desire. I almost cried when I got a 2h staff with 50% knockout, 35% stamina drain and 15% kill last night, only to realize only ninjas could use it. Sigh.
