I'm curious and also would like some ideas on assigning race to the different classes, perhaps races I have never considered that work really great in that specific class.

My favorites are:
Lizzy for fighters
Felpurr's for Samurai
Hobbit's for Rogues
Elf or Faerie for spellcasters
Mook or Elf for Rangers

I am looking to try something different for all the classes so I would love to hear some of your ideas for races

I keep changing around. All of those you mention are good choices. I have done well with Rawulf Lords, Human almost anything, Hobbit Bards, Dracon Fighter or Lord (yes), and Gnomic Rogues. I don't always go for the best, your choices are close to the best. I skip around but generally avoid the obviously bad matches.

yep, i'd agree with both your choices. i'd add mook bard and felpurr rogues to the list.

and since neither of you mentioned monks, i'd put elf top of the list, human second.

edit: and gnomes make good mages too.

Elf monk? Never thought of that one! That would accelerate the magic, not sure about the damage.

monks have a minimum damage as a class, so that offsets the low starting strength of the elf (unlike, say, elf ninjas )

the vitality is a bit low, so stamina can be an issue, but everything fits well. my fav was a female elf monk named evie, after rachel weisz's character in the mummy movies.

An Elf Monk sounds really cool! I think I'll give that one a go in my next party.

I'm currently running a Dracon Bard and I have to say I am quite pleased with her. She's doing fabulously and her Music is well over 60 now and she's only level 8.

Gnome Rogue sounds cool as well, have to give that one a try.

I've tried a Dracon fighter but have to say I prefer the Lizard. Lizzy's can max out strength and vitality by 5th or 6th level which leaves me free pretty early on to work on Dex and speed.

Mook Bard would definitely be doable. Added bonus of being able to use the Giant sword later as well. Awsome!

Please keep the suggestions coming, all of you have such great advice, tips etc..to share, this is the nicest forum I've ever been to

The problem with Dracon bards is that they use up lots of stamina on both playing instruments and using their breath. If you are going to play a dracon bard, make her female and get one of those amulets of endurance.

I'm starting a party of three (fig-rog-bar) with the thought of (obviously) melee heavy party.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mook Bard in this case, as the mook allows you the highest starting strength and dexterity combination, but also the high natural intelligence means you don't have to spend any extra points there if you are concentrating on melee (plan to use music defensively for the most part). Also, I like the high starting senses for a small party wherein you don't want to spend too many points on senses.

I also like Faeries, Elves, and Gnomes for my spellcasters. The exception would be that I generally play a Human Priest because I want both Powercast and Powerstrike ASAP. I've also played a Dwarf Priest, but it takes too long to get Powercast.

My very favorite character is an Elf Bard. With all the Bard items, she is a killing machine (up to 75 damage per swing, three swings per attack, two attacks per round at level 22). As I get her close combat skill up, she eventually gets three attacks per round. She uses Bloodlust. I maximize Strength and Dexterity first, put three points into Powerstrike at every level, and keep her combat speed at 125 using Haste. I use mostly Music for her ranged attacks, but also let her sling stones.

I've also read reports that a Dracon (we're such a versatile race!) makes a good Samurai, but haven't tried it myself. I play Dracons rather than Lizardmen because one of the Dracon pictures rather looks like my 5 foot long pet Green Iguana.
