Mad

I just finished this game tonight. This is arguably the most flawed yet brilliant game I've played. The graphics are so so sometimes restricting the PC's vision and making certain parts of the plot difficult to get to, they are IMHO the real low point of the game, and sometimes the puzzles are simply mind boggling, like the element one in Tulla. On the other side however, the voice acting is really something else, much better then TOEE which Troika helped to develop. ALthough the portraits were not really that good, they helped set the victorian "steampunk" atmosphere the game hopes to attain. On the same note, the cities are some of the best I've seen, with genuine paperboys and daily routines for the NPC's. The plot is amazing, equal to that of BG and BG2, with some pretty cool surprises at the end.... What did you think of it?

The part where you team up with Arronax to take on Khedgar (sp?)and find out that he's the son of Nasrudin are simply pieces of gameplay exellence, with Arranox not being to weak, nor too strong. What I don't get is why he refused to cast spells at the final boss, oh well he got his dues when a Lord's Servant tore his face off....

I LOVE Arcanum. Sometimes it's frustrating if something ends up on the ground behind a building - can't bloody well see it to pick it up (I think it was Arcanum I had that problem in, it's a long time since I played).

But in terms of character development, replayability, and sheer scope of the game, it is first rate. I don't think I've seen a single player RPG with that many locations, the graphics may not be brilliant but it's quite pretty, the tech systematics are well thought out, and it's one of the least linear RPGs I've played. You can wander around and see what happens. Weapons, armour, and items get damaged and break and you can repair them or get them repaired, the papers get delivered, and there are plenty of side quests. At no time did I feel I was being led through the game on a piece of string towards a conclusion, unlike a lot of RPGs.

IMHO, the game is easily one of the best RPGs available. I've passed this game at least eleven times, I know the game inside and out. It's beautiful. It's perfect. I love the game. I hate Virgil. Don't we all?
With the risk of sounding braggish or egoistic, selfcentered or something like that, I offer my help with any problem you might have with this game.

And that's about it. His neutral stance makes him a catastrophic healer to anyone who puts more than 5 points into either magic or technology. His 9str max makes him unable to use any good sword, his voice is annoying and only good thing about him is an extra quest for which you do not get any xp. With Raven you can at least marry her, have a bunch of kids and rule the world, Virgil will always be a bad comic relief for me.
I hate Virgil.
