Have you ever come across a game that you had no idea how to play it?
I'm not talking about a boring or a bad game just a game that you had no idea how to play no matter if you read the manual or did the tutorials.

I remember trying Colonization for the first time. It was terrible, I had no idea what to do and it was all very complicated. Then I spent a whole night playing it, learned it extrememly well and got seriously hooked, today it's still one of my favorite games ever.

I tried Gangsters 2 recently and even if I learned eventually what I had to do I had no idea how to do it... it was like the interface was missing a few buttons...

I also had lot of trouble getting into Morrowwind, never did actually, tried it for a couple of days but just felt lost... so I gave up and went back to playing Neverwinter Nights...

The longest leanring how to play for me was X: Beyond The Frontier. Man was I lost on that one. I accumulated 65000cr without knowing I could buy factories.

For me it's definitely Europa Universalis. My brother bought it for my birthday (read: he wanted it for himself ) but I couldn't get what you were supposed to do, especially when you started with already developed countries. Seriously had no idea at all. My brother enjoyed it though

AFL 2003, Australian football. I can't get the hang of it. Not just the gameplay, but the rules are a mystery to me as well. Too bad, because it looks pretty good.

Do boardgames count on this? If so, Rise and Decline of the Third Reich was just plain ugly. It had a magazine for a manual, and I was lost after page 3.

For computer/console games, it had to be this one wrestling game I rented one time (I believe it was Wrestlemania 2000). The controls were beyond complicated; I eventually gave up, and started designing my own wrestlers and having the computer play them both (i.e. watched it like wrestling on TV).

Gothic, I can never really get used to the controls. That is so frustrating that I stop playing it.

Planscape Torment, I really don't understand the storyline at all. What am i searching for? Why the hell am I going from one place to another place? And what's the meaning of that ending?

An old game: Of Light and Darkness. The puzzles are weird, timed and confusing. I gave it up after playing for 10 minutes or so.

Great game!

For me it was Empire Galactica or something like that. I did demo missions and all but once I tried in the real game it didn't work. Besides I didn't know what to do anyway. I found it looking very cool though, I don't have it anymore as I threw away all my copied CDs a couple of years ago.

Kakero, I was waiting for someone else to mention Planescape: Torment for I was too chicken to mention it first! The PS:T fans are rabid and I have read enough over the years on various forums how they exclaim that it is *the* roleplaying game of all roleplaying games. They'll probably tell you that you just don't get the existential flow... I tried to get into it at least 3 times and, yes, I played longer than 15 hours [I actually saw a PS:T fan rip another non-fan claiming the latter had to play longer than 5 hours to really appreciate it; how did he know how long the guy played it?]. But, "ZZZZzzzzz", it put me to sleep. Okay, let the flaming begin! I'm not afraid.
