I started a human monk, lawful good, 18's in str dex and con and the change spread amongst the rest. My question is why his hps are so damn low? 43 to start the game doesn't sound right for a fighting type class, I think I made a sorcerer with around that many.

Is this right?

Monks get the same HPs as clerics, so they're a lot lower than other fighting types.
But you're right, 43 still sounds very low, even for that.
Don't know what could have caused it.
Try doing it again and see what happens.

It is low, and I don't know why, but one of the things you might want to remember when creating characters is that monks don't get extra hit points for high constitution like fighters do. Monks are like clerics in this respect, too.

If you are set to receive max hit points per level (normal difficulty) then "7levels X 8hps = 56 + 14(constitution bonus of 2 per lvl)=70" to start right?

Maybe you aren't set to receive max hp per level (Core Difficulty or higher), and you got crappy rolls?

Have fun with your monk! He will kick butt!

Assuming lvl 7 Monk with 16 CON.

7D8 + 14Hp

This will give you a range from 21 Hp to 70 Hp.

If you want to receive the maximum roll for Hp, reduce the difficulty to Normal before creating your Character. You can also do this when you level up characters until they reach level 9, since Hp gains after level 9 is fixed.

PS: Monks do not get Hp bonuses for having CON above 16.

Yeah, I am on insane or possibly whatever is right below insane so I guess I got crappy rolls. I tried to make another guy to test it and he got 47 hp, so I figure I am in the right range so I will keep him.

So if con does nothing past 16, what should I have put those 2 pts towards?

Ideally for a Monk?

STR: 18
CON: 16
DEX: 18
WIS: 10
INT: 10
CHA: 8

Total = 80 pts

This will have no penalties. Remember though, you need to...

... sacrifice one stat point in Chapter 4, so try to make either WIS or INT 11.
