I have never really used a bard in any game and I have a question. Can a Bard memorize spells? reson be is that I collected a bucnh of them and when he tries to memorize, they fail. Could this just be that his INT is not high enough?

Actually I have another question, where can I find a magic user to join my group?I am on my way to the town of Pengost????(forgot the name). In my party I have a thief that joined immediately, the two friends(fighter and druid) from the friendly inn, a cleric I had turned from stone to flesh(carnival) and a bard.

To make sure you learn the spell, save the game, learn the spell. IF you fail - restore and try again. Or you can drink the potion of genius and learn all the spells you want.

There is a good (though 'good' is not his alignment) Necromancer in the first area east of candlekeep! If you follow the road after Imoen joins you, you can't miss him. A halfling fighter/thief is with him. They are inseperable.

Xzar (the necromancer) is a very funny character and very useful.
There are other mages around, but this is the nearest to you at this point.

The intelligence does play a role in spell retention. If you have low intellect this will be a problem, so get an intelligence potion, and while under the effects of that, do all your memorisation.

"No. It can't be played"

"No we've seen enough of that one....."

The best mage in the game is probably Edwin. He´s an evil conjurer and you can find him in Nashkell. You can get him and do his quest, that way you will get another mage (Dynaheir, good aligned invoker (i think)). Now, depending on your alignment, choose one or the other.

In Nashkell mines there is another good aligned mage, but he´s so poor and annoying, i think you really shouldnt take him.

About memorising spells, take potions to increase your intelligence and im sure you will memorise them.

IMHO a bard is great, but maybe his/her intelligence isn't too high? The percentage chance to learn spells is as follows:

INT - %chance to learn spells
9 - 35%
10 - 40%
11 - 45%
12 - 50%
13 - 55%
14 - 60%
15 - 65%
16 - 70%
17 - 75%
18 - 85%
19 - 95%
20 - 96%
21 - 97%
22 - 98%
23 - 99%
24+ - 100%

As the others have said, saving a game before you try to memorize is essential, and potions of intelligence can boost your chances considerably.
