Is there some trick I haven't yet discovered on how to re-name a game save if you overwrite it?

Morrowind seems to be one of the few games I have found that doesn't seem I to allow this. I see that the most recent save is at the top on the window, but I like giving meaningful names to my save games

I don't. The game happens to crash randomly, so i just press F5 every now and then. It would become a dayjob to give it a different name every time i save the game.

I have always wondered how one goes about deleting old saved saved games because the list is getting quite long. Anybody know?

To overwrite and reaname, just select the game you want to save on and then left click in the game name field, and edit using backspace... easy. At least on pc.

If you want to get rid of some savegames (they are quite big, 5-6 megs each), just get in the morrowind\saves directory and delete the .ess files you don't want, they are named after the savegames: es. quicksave = quiksave.ess

Yes - it may look like you can't rewrite the name because there's no flashing cursor, but you can, just click on the save game and start backspacing.

I definitely agree with Johnny that quicksave often! Really often! But I do like to have real saves every now and then in case I do something stupid and have to go back. Like before I go into a scary dungeon I make a real save, then just quicksave while in there.

Did anyone else notice that when you just have morrowind it's called 'quiksave', but when you have tribunal too it's 'quicksave'? Much better that way. I HATE shortened words like that!

I agree with you. But my game, with Tribunal installed, kkeps naming the game quiksave... maybe that's because it's the same quicksave I've been overwriting from the very beginning of my Morrowind experience.

Arrgggg --- fooled by a non flashing cursor !!

I always like to number my saves, its interesting to see how many saves ( excluding quicksaves ) you made to complete a game ...
BG I has my record so far, 428 saves.

[/QUOTE]No, I didn't actually keep each individual save, I just consecutively numbered the overwrites. I don't think had more than 15 actual save slots at any one time ..

Ah, better... I never kept trace of my save count. But I bet in morrowind you will save much more than 500 times, especially if you have crash problems.
