I am sort of holding off entering any dungeons that I come across in my travels in case they have some association with specific quests. I don't want to find specific items, sell them, and then realize that they are required for a specific quest. Is that advisable, or is it better just to try them out as I go along?

go into them, but only sell to the creeper (or the mudcrab, but thats out of your way). that way if you need a particular item, you know where it is and you can buy it back. problem solved. if you want some good loot, go and rob the vivec great house vaults.

The only thing you generally need to watch out for is 'named' items, like "The Shoes of SoandSo" or the "Staff of Bob" and the like...

yeah, but oru, if you sell those to a single merchant (or leave it near the merchant on the ground if its something like, say, a leg bone) then you still know where to find that item... just make sure the merchant isnt going to equip it (creeper never equips items, niether does the crab).

yes, I always have my fav. merchant...
it doesn't have to be mudcrab (a special merchant with tons of gold and hard to find) I for example always use the Smiths at pelgiad because its easy to find, the palce is nice and there is only one smith

I use several different merchants cuz no one has enough money to accomodate me without the use of cheater mods.

avatar, the creeper in caldera is easy to find, has ALOT more money, and theres only one creeper. not to mention that caldera is easily accessable by mages guild.

Actually most quest items that you find before starting said quest cant be picked up until that specific quest is initiated and dont forget you can drop off things that you may need later inside crates in places you frequent.

Not really true Pyrius: it isn't possible to play every quest in the game with a single character, so it would have greatly limited play if you couldn't pick up an item until a specific quest was triggered. It would have also put up a major roadblock to the ultra-open environment that's always been a hallmark of the Elder Scrolls games.
Its very easy to find and sell an item by accident that will become essential to a later quest, at least in the PC version. So long as you are careful to only sell 'named' items to creeper, it usually isn't a problem. Oru |

heck, i just throw things i think might be needed into a bag i keep on my bedroom floor. best thing about grabbing a house, you can use the construction set to make sure all flags for all containers in it are flagged no-spawn, and everything remains nice and neat.
also, anything you lay on the ground in the open will stay there forever. i have a game that's over a year old and all my junk is still on the silt strider platforms where i tossed 'em. V***V
