In the blades warehouse area of the Boneyard is a woman called christine. One of her dialogue options leads to a conversation that goes something like:
christine: CDEDBD ducks me: MA not ducks c: OSMR CDEDBD wings me: YIBMA ducks. (I think this is how it goes. The fallout script makes it hard to differentiate between O's and D's, A's and R's.) I'm guessing this is an easter egg of some sort but, just in case it's not, could someone please tell me what the hell it means? PS. Really enjoying Fallout 1 and am definately going to buy the next instalments. Without spoiling, can anyone point out the improvements of fallout 2 and tactics?

Without spoiling...
In Fallout 2, there is more cities, random encounters, easter eggs, party members, enemies, weapons, weapon upgrades, etc. It is at least twice as large as the F1. There is no "tell me about" option when talking to NPCs (but it was useless anyway). Fallout 2 is one of the best games I've played, I warmly recommend it. Tactics are usually frowned at, buggy, slow, bad AI; but I found it OK. Weapons are more realistic (and there is a whole lot of them). Prices fluctuate, depending on the merchant's stock. However, it is more a tactical game than a RPG. You assemble team and go on missions for Brotherhood of Steel (the title suggests it). My recommendation is to play all three. It's the best game setting after Forgotten Realms.

Read it aloud.
C D E D B D Ducks! See the itty bitty ducks! M R Not Ducks! Them are not ducks! O S A R! C D E D B D Wings! Oh yes they are! See the itty bitty wings! O I B M R Ducks Oh I be! Them are ducks! Yes, its an easter egg. It's a reference to the old DOS game Wasteland, which Fallout was based on. As for your second question, Fallout 2 is one the greatest computer games ever made, its in the same league with RPGs such as BG2 and Torment. In fact I consider it superior to these two. You'll be missing out on a huge experience if you don't play it. Just make sure you download the necessary patches first. Tactics was a great game in its own right (repeat: in its own right). Just remebe that its a turn based strategy game not an rpg. Helluva fun game. I recommend playing all two games, and pray that Interplay decides to do a Fallout 3. |
