I beat him with some luck and a few reloads with a level five scout.
I used poison and sonic grenades after I dodged his intital grenades. I used all the shields I could get. Finally when thoses grenades ran out, I used concussion grenades and moved in to attack with my dual vibroblades if he got stunned. I would back off when the stun wore off and repeat. Like I said it took some luck and a few reloads for this stragedy to work, but eventually it did. Good luck. Oh and the few DS points are for fighting to the death. It's all worth it for his items though!

I got lucky, my soldier was a 'master of Melee', so I managed to kill him in close combat. My scout killed him by permanently keeping his energy shield up, dodging his grenades and returning fire with Frag grenades. In case you are really desperate; you can quicksave during combat. This is a bit cheesy, though.

My guy is also a "mater of melee", but that damn jump in the air move hits me for 20+ a pop in close combat. Sounds like I just need to use grenades (I usually save them for groups of enemies, but in his case I'll make an exception). I have 3 energy shields, which I hope will last long enough to take him out. Of course, I'll have to blow some credits on more grenades, but I like the idea of using concussion grenades, then moving in to take advantage of my melee strength. I'll play with it tonight, see what I can do.
I guess the dark side penalty makes sense in that light. I figured that I was doing the right thing by taking him down, but in the long run the ends do not justify the means. I'll take the penalty and (hopefully) wax this guy.
