Advice for Dungeon Siege?

What type of character should I use on my first try through Dungeon Siege?

I picked up a copy of Dungeon Siege recently from the “Previously Enjoyed” (read Used) section of my local game store. I asked the salesclerk if it came with a manual; he said yes. When I opened the box it had two CD’s, the manual and a cloth map of the Sword coast showing Neverwinter and Luskan???

I read the manual and loaded the game on my old Pentium II box. Should I try a melee character, an archer or would a combat mage be better?

You should use which ever class that you feel comfortable with. Melee is straight forward. no need explaination. It's easy to start as a melee class. Archer would have a problem in dealing damage. You will have to retreat , shoot, retreat, shoot until the monster die. Combat mage will be doing the same thing as an archer, only this time you also have to wait for you mana to go up.

edit : however, no matter which class you start with, things would get easier and easier once you found some team member. They tank and you can shoot with arrows { if you are archer } or magics ( if you are a mage )

I usually start as melee but if you want to become mage u should best first train as a melee so u can gain some strengh, this way you'll be able to put on better armor and get easier trough the first part of the game!
