It just occurred to me I've never asked this here, and it's a question that could be very helpful to me... what are the kinds of things you always wished you could say to/hear from/do with an NPC?

Ask Korgan why he is so short...

Ask Edwin how he felt being a woman...

Ask Keldorn how it feels to be a cuckold...

Ask Hair Dallas how it feels to wear the ring of folly...

But seriously.

I would like to be able to receive more NPC advice and input on various quests. Jaheira should speak up more during the druidic quests. Korgan could give advice on how to be evil and get away with it. In general, the NPCs should take a more active role in the day to day affairs of the party. Right now, they just remain silent most of the time.

Minsc and Edwin seem to have the most dialouge. Hair Dallas speaks a great deal as well, but I would just as soon have him not speak (this is why the ring of folly is a must for every party with Hair Dallas in it).

I just was reading some tutorials on this other website about modifying dialogues and such. It doesn't seem to difficult. Most of the Mods I've seen are wholly new material. It would be interesting for someone to pump up the existing dialogues. Or in the parlance of BG, to buff them.

And for that matter, did anyone ever initiated dialogue with a party-npc? Everyone always has nothing to say to me then...

the NPCs in bg2 could be total strangers the way they act sometimes. there is simply not enought dialouge going on; I would suggest that if someone wanted to improve it, have the npcs make a *real* attempt to 'get to know' the main char, and perhaps try to be 'friends' with him/her/it.
thats my advice, oh and one other thing; You know how you can talk to a familar? well you *should* (in my opoinoin) be able to talk to the npcs like that, and start up your convo with them, rather then wait.

I believe that this is for Rowan?
Anyway, I like the dialogues that goes between the NPCs. They open about the past, etc. But they talk kinda little about what's going on in the moment. They dont really say they're opinions too often.
Just some thoughts.

With ToB installed, they definitely speak up more and say different things as well. ToB makes all the NPC's more interactive and less like dummies just following the main NPC around. For example, Nalia gives tips during the Sauhagin city sequence, Imoen and Valygar go at it for a bit because Imoen gets upset that Valygar keeps talking about "evil magic users", etc...things I definitely didn't hear when I played with just SoA alone.

Hear, hear: Initiate conversations with fellow party members, including the ability to apologize to your Romances and take back what you just said. Also, NO dialogue should begin while enemies are present, or in certain "enemy" areas, like Firkraag's lair, Kangaxx's bachelor pad, etc.

On a side note, is it possible for two or more party members to speak AT THE SAME TIME? I don't think the game's engine was built to handle 2 mini-portraits in the Text Window simultaneously. But if it could be done, we could have this conversation:

Anomen- "Did you notice my performance in that last battle? I seem to be getting even better, though such a thing had hardly seemed possible before."

(CHARNAME)- "Anomen, that wasn't a "battle," that was three Kou-Toa that got lost and were unfortunate enough to run into us. And as far as "noticing performace" goes, maybe you didn't notice that *I* killed them."

Anomen- "Well, you have certainly lowered any respect for your manners....if you wish to try to sully the reputation of an honored Knight of the Order, go ahead, but I warn you it is a fruitless task."

Jan- "(CHARNAME), you shouldn't hurt Ano's feelings like that. He's really quite a skilled warrior, you know, just like my great-aunt Cordelia. Oh, quite a skilled hand with a ladle she was. There wasn't a Basilisk in the neighborood that wouldn't turn tail and run whenever they heard she was coming. Of course, that may have been due to her breath or her less-than-aesthetically-pleasing facial structure, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, and Anomen too, because they DO share so many of the same characteristics."

Jaheira- "Oh, stop it, both of you. Anomen has proved his worth to us time and again, both as a fighter and a skilled healer. (CHARNAME)wouldn't have included Anomen if he was a poor companion."

Jan- "My point exactly--all I said was that Ano's a skilled warrior."

Aerie- "He's actually pretty handsome, too, isn't he?"

Jan- "Well, that's not my area of expertise, but I do know a big, broad-shouldered man when I see one."

Jaheira- "And he IS very strong....."

Aerie- "And the way he talks is SO romantic...."

Jan, Jaheira, and Aerie TOGETHER- "Yeah....TOO BAD HE'S SUCH AN A**HOLE!!!"

Note: This conversation will probably turn Anomen hostile.

Which would add to the enjoyment of the whole process, as there is nothing more fun than a hostile Anomen ... or a hostile Hair Dallas for that matter.
