Oh Dear, and this is nothing to do with gladiators!!

A freak accident, with French long-jumper Salim Sdiri speared by a javelin, overshadowed the IAAF Golden League meeting in Rome.
Salim was crouching in the warm-up area when a wild throw from Finland's Tero Pitkamaki hit him in the upper body.

Dang, you think they'd be able to make the javelin pit safer, first the ref, now the Frenchman. Couldn't they just make the cage higher and have no one near the vicinity of the throw?

If he had been hit by a Javelin missile there wouldn't have been much to show, except for a smoking crater and a pair of shoes.

Same thing has happened in my secondary school, nearly 12 years ago. Some students were training with javelin. One of them threw the javelin and it impaled the head of a student who was jogging along the track. The student died on the spot.

Since then javelin was banned from the school.
