SPOILERS
> > > > > Yes, I can vouch that taking the BG2 engine and using it to play BG1 leads to some "interesting" changes (ex. fission slime that was supposed to split doesn't split, phoenix guards just die without exploding, etc.). It wouldn't surprise me if it allows you to take down Elminster through some change. In fact, you can probably use the spell Lower Resistance to drop his spell resistance, then take him out. Oh, and my hat goes off to Six for the Demonknight. I tried several times with my solo sorcerer, and managed to get him to near death before he vanished. I pretty much had to unload the spellbook on him to do it, too (and had both rings of wizardry; an interest effect for the sorcerer is that wearing both gives you 4x the number of level 1 spells).

"phoenix guards just die without exploding"
I know a goooooood place to harvest XP then. I was merely trying to provide some input regarding Elminster in regular unmodified "pure" BG1/totsc in case I missed something and to allow someone smarter than me to take over where I left. (Points finger at Six). Like him. My outmost admiration to Six on the Demonknight - a fact I didn't make clear previously. I wonder if you have to beat him up again in the cellar?

I also take my hat off to Six. It really is an amazing feet. No one else would even have thought of it before you man. I think I may try it this time on my solo barbarian, although I will be on bgt so it will not be as spectacular. Although it probably will be impossible without magic or traps, wont it?

Regarding Elminster: BGT or no BGT, it is an important fact that the "Old Man" that mad=dog has shown to be invincible is a different person than the "Elminster" that Badvok says he killed. It may simply be that the "Old Man" present at the Crossroads and in Beregost are unkillable simply to ensure continuity when "Elminster" shows up in BG City.
Regarding the demonknight: He doesn't engage the tourists in hand-to-hand combat, he simply teleports in, pops off a couple of scripted Fireballs at them, and teleports out. I beat him under standard BG1/ToSC rules, but with massive abuse of Reload knowledge (i.e., being buffed up and with everything ready for this particular fight at this specific location). Even if you do manage to whack him on the ground floor, he's still waiting for you downstairs. Teaser: Killing his ground-floor incarnation nets you two unique items, one of which is obtainable nowhere else in the game! [ 06-04-2004, 02:23 PM: Message edited by: SixOfSpades ]

Me too. I know one (Six had to brag) is a Full Plate +1. Definately not a bad deal. Slightly under FP&Ro'Prot+2, but frees a ring slot. The other one.... Could it be one of the unaccounted scrolls? The only weapons I can think of as unique would the the vampire blade(super cursed!), root of the problem(a club), the chaos blade(+5 LS, but we know that's supposed to be on Sarevok), backbiter(slightly cursed spear+3) and Durlags Pride(that would make sense). Or one of the helmets (opposite align & charm prot.). Or something completely and utterly nutz I would never think of. Endless possibilities. My head hurts.

Sarevok's sword can't even be obtained...not even through using GateKeeper. Your thinking is working very well so far. Finally...back to playing BG1! I think it's time to hit ToTSC after all this time ![]()

You can get FP+1 by killing Tamoko right? Either in the streets of BG (if you refuse to spare Sarevok) or "down under". I reason that must be one of the two because Six said only one of the items where truely unique.
I think you can CLUA sarevoks sword in. Got it from a friend who said it was a +5 longsword (or broadsword or something). Cannot help any further. Never had it or seen it or anything of the sort. Regarding Gatekeeper: Can it be used to change NPC's proficiencies? Safana started with a mark in Spears!? Completely redundant and must be a bug. There are no spears available to thieves at all. I'd little to change that somehow (and I don't feel bad about doing so).
