Does anyone here have any comments on Bioware's project - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic -
Apparently its a SF CRPG using the Aurora engine from NWN, is a one person isometric SP & is largely non-linear with the usual bioware storyline. Has anyone any further info - boos/cheers. Probably released late 2003. |

I tried to bring up the subject a couple of days ago, but the thread went largely ignored
Screenshots sure look nice even if I am not a fan of NWN / the Aurora Engine. ![]()

Haven't heard to much yet, but the bits and pieces I've seen look pretty cool.

After seeing that Screenshot... BOO... I don't know but this seems to be like a bizzare NeverWinterNights Spinoff, the same game in every way but with roleplaying Star Wars Charactes, why diidnt they choose something that wasn't as big or as popular, like Warhammer 40k, or PlanetScape, or Jinn... They had to go all unnariginal with it, *sigh* I guess it's going to be good either way, but afer my last encounter with Aurara, I couldn't help but think that this thing was gonig in all the wrong directions, the graphics consumption and lag time didnt reallly fit together seeing as the graphics werent actually being consumed and yet there is lag on most machines, the camera is far too limited, the levels can only be SO big, adn even then you're met with huge load times despite the fact that the levels contain less polygons than a single Unreal Tournament stage which has free-flowing air that cna be moved around it, and flight is possible, as well as going into and out of building environments without any extra load times, and loads in just seconds on my machine, while a NWN mod takes forever. I'm still trying to figure this one out... then again, you never know... Maybe it will load faster somehow... *sigh* I guess it's time that I got back to working on my mod...

Well I first heard of this game in fall of 1999, around the same time I started playing BG1, and to be honest I couldn't care less if it ever comes out now, it's been waaaayyyyy too long in making.
But it looks pretty good never the less... then again, I have a soft spot for anything related to starwars... |

Speaking of Star Wars games I have been reading some good stuff about Star Wars Galaxies lately. Seems like it is shaping up to be pretty good, even if Verant is involved.

It has a sky. That alone is better than NWN.

Ugh...more Star Wars. I, myself, don't like the look of NWN and this game...I like the BGII and IWD style much better. You get a better feel for the game, I think.

This looks great, but I still sigh whenever I think about how many light years behind the clarity and beauty of 3D graphics are.
![]() Course, I'm also upset the IWD2 is 3rd Edition. I'm such a fogey. |
