Ok, I am totally lost with all the new classes in BG2, what is the general concencious of the best Race/Class combo. I have played BG1, but never played D&D, these new branches in each class are puzzling to me, I dont know what makes a good char, and which is just a chump char (ie a cleric in BG1). I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Hi and welcome to the board!!
It is probably most enjoyable to play using a human, elf or half-elf character. This lets you have romance storylines with some of the NPCs. The best class depends on your preference really but some suggestions for each of the major classes: If Paladin play Cavalier: very tough with lots of combat bonuses against oft encountered Baddies, If Ranger play Archer: Pretty fun to play with as you can control the outcome of fights with your bow Cleric: your preference based on the alignment you like to play with Thief: Never tried one. Swashbucklers look OK I guess Bard: Skalds are pretty cool. Mage: If you have the Throne of Bhaal expansion play as a Wild Mage, if not a conjurer or envoker. Fighter: DON'T play as a Wizard Slayer the others are OK Hope this is useful |

Welcome aboard, and i hope Ironworks turns out the best for u! Its ur choice to whatever u want. Do u like magic, be a mage. Do u lik fighting, be a fighter. But then comes those other classes, like a paladin. He's a cop dude, and the cleric is like ur daily religion teacher. Now the kits r the lower branches of those guys, like u can be a Kensai fighter, he's ur sword crouching tiger dude. For priests, u choose to be the good god lathander priest, neatral helm priest, or the evil Talos priest. Read the manual, and have fun. Remember, more questions will clarify ur answers. IF ur really in need, make a post sayin NEWBIES, and we'll come along.
