Good morning, all. Cold and dreary, here. Freezing, too, 30 degrees F. Hope everyone is ok, 'cause I feel GREAT!

I try hard not to be a packrat...but I have the same kindof problem...especially with books.
I would, but the problem is not that I don't need the stuff, it's just that with my small apartment, I don't have room for it all. I've been going through and trying to weed out the stuff, but one issue is that I don't want to just throw some of this stuff, and no one seems to want to buy them on ebay. Guess I'll just have to hope my complex has a community garage sale.
I also have to keep all the boxes closed because otherwise my nosy cat climbs in them and pulls things out (and then hides them on me)

Morning, Arion. Just killing time until my meetings start. How's your vacation coming? Wanna trade?

Morning all, I wish I had good news to report, seeing as how I've been away from cloudy's for a while, but I don't, My grandfather had a stroke saturday night, I found out this morning when I opened my work email, he's apparently coherent, but has no feeling on one side, and not doing well...

it wouldn't be a major issue, but I'm 2,500 miles away, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it back before whatever happens, well... happens.

sorry about bringing the mood down, but I really don't know how to feel except bad that I can't be there, and very frustrated, it'll be about 6 weeks before I move out there for good and I'm scared...

one of my biggest worries about joining the Army was being away when he died, and now I'm so close to getting out and being home, but it looks like I'll still be too late.

Morgeraut, aren't you able to get emergency leave for a grandparents illness? If you're unsure, ask one of the base's priests/ministers/rabbi's. I know times are really unsettled in the military right now but I know that people have been able to get leave in the past.

the problem is that i'm beginning clearing post to leave the military with about 30 days of terminal leave, the original plan was to stay here during my leave and depending on job offers here and at home determine where to go (with preference for home of course), which means it will be at least until I finish clearing before I can leave, I've talked to RevRuby and I can head home early, but until then I'm fairly powerless...

also usually according to regulation you can only get emergency leave for the death of a grandparent/non immediate family member if they are or have been your legal guardian, which isn't the case, strings can be pulled and things can be arranged, but strictly according to regulation, no I can't right now...

edit: you can also get a compassionate reassignment for the a dying family member. this essentially means you will be transferred to the bearest army base to the family member, and fill whatever slots are available, that you are capable of (such as mail clerk, etc)

I understand your problem. At this late date it would be hard to pull any strings. I'll be praying for you and your grandfather. My hope is that everything will resolve itself satisfactorily for you and your family.
