pic i got from someone here on the ironworks (cant recall who) - they posted a million little pics and i edited one.
Researched a little more today on unsaturated fat http://coconutoil.com/ray_peat_unsaturated_oils.htm it seems like soy and unsaturated fat are very similar in their immune suppression and thyroid suppression. I wonder if soy is just much more unsaturated fat than other unsaturated fats so the statistical people found that correlation easier. there was also a research on cholesterol on that site that i found rather interesting and confusing. Apparently they think good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL) dont actually matter much - its the total cholesterol that had any statistical predictiveness, and only slight at that. |

Gabrielles blades, most references the article uses are 20, 30 or even 50 years old. I would not trust any article resorting to such old references, especially not one posted on a site with such an obvious agenda (They promote coconut oil which is extremely high on saturated fat).
Do a search on "unsaturated fat" or "polyunsaturated fat" on pubmed. I haven't found any publications there implying that unsaturated fat could have negative effects on your immune system, but I have found many publications stating that it improves insulin sensitivity and hormone balance. Saturated fat has the opposite effect, at least on your insulin sensitivity. [ 10-22-2004, 05:53 AM: Message edited by: Rataxes ]

I also was a little skeptical about their research because of their obvious promotion of their oil. However i have found many articles on the net that support the findings which on their face do not appear to be connected with the coconut oil industry.
For example: http://www.benbest.com/health/essfat.html http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/fats_and_cancer.html http://www.edmsllc.com/diet.htm http://www.heall.com/body/healthupda...uratedfat.html I looked around pubmed for articles, but i cant understand the scientific jargon they are using. There are a bunch of articles listed under unsaturated fat immune as the search key though; a few even look like they say that unsaturated fats do exactly what the above articles say about them. *edit* hunted around hawaii statistic information apparently disease of the heart is listed as their number 1 cause of death for 2002 i wonder what is causing the disease of the heart for them; atherosclerosis was very low for them.
