So, now DC works perfectly in WINE then? Wow!

There are still the issues mentioned in the first post. The editor works exactly like on my XP box, but the engine still changes the screen resolution, unless you use the debug version which opens in a window instead of full screen. (If you're interested in teh debug version, PM me.

WINE does run DC, it just doesn't release the screen resolution back to what Linux was before. (Which is why I use a windowed version of the editor.)
If you haven't gone there already, visit WineHQ.org. All of your questions will be answered there. ![]() I run a lot Windows programs through WINE without any issues. The only one that I can't run Itunes. ![]() Actually between WINE and DOSBox, I could almost get rid of Windows. My 3D software works in WINE, but is frickin' slow compared to XP (part of that is due to diffrent processors, but still.) |

Hmm... as a Mac has come into my possession lately, I have been trying hard to work my Windows applications using the following:
1. VirtualBox + Windows XP = failure! Seems to not like 3D graphics (instant crash) 2. Darwine (Mac OS port of Wine) = failure! Seems to be unable to save anything (so any installations fail when it tries to write a file); even the bundled notepad fails if you try to move the window or save a file or something 3. Bootcamp + Windows XP = haven't tried this yet, perhaps this is where I will have to go... although I would rather be able to run my Windows apps in OS X... If you have any idea what is going wrong with Wine, that would be awesome ![]()

I don't have a Mac.
![]() Have you tried DOSBox? It won't run DC, but it will run FRUA and all of your other GoldBox games. That will at least give you something to do... ![]() If VMWare has a Mac version, you might give them a try. I've been happy with both the Windows and Linux versions. Technically you'd still be running your programs in Windows, but you wouldn't need to reboot. ![]() |

Ah well, by updating my Mac OS X, Wine works a lot better (can actually run stupid things like notepad and install games), but my installed game doesn't work
![]() ![]() Seems a good effort, but... Anyway, VMWare costs money, so... ![]()

Wow, I didn't know VMWare was charging for their desktop edition now. I knew that they did for the datacenter version...
The other virtual machine that I've used is Virtual PC, which is not bad, but didn't have as many features as VMWare (more important for my schooling than home use). But, from what I've just been reading, Virtual PC for Mac totally sucks. Here's a link to installing WINE on Mac OS X... http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ Everything I've been reading says that VirtualBox is pretty good, but that WINE works with more software...I guess I'll have to take their word for it, unless someone wants to donate a Mac to me so I can find out. ![]() |

Well - recent versions of VirtualBox are able to emulate DirectX, which is why I was happy to try gaming with it... Others seem to have been more successful on the net than me (with Icewind Dale, for example).
As it is, so far I have tried: Temple of Elemental Evil on WINE: Installed, but fails to run (at all) Temple of Elemental Evil on VirtualBox: Installed, but fails to run (at all) Icewind Dale II on WINE: Fails to install (I think) Icewind Dale II on VirtualBox: Installed, runs somewhat OK, but fails (in particular, when the PC's 3D model appears in the character creation screen, after 1-3 seconds) Ah well. Maybe I need iMac firmware or something?

The important question is can you use DC?
![]() I would recommend looking int he WineHQ forums, as the infinity engine is widely supported and supposed to have the highest rating. But, failing that, do a google search for infinity engine emulators - there is a Linux replacement that allows you to play the infinity engine games natively in Linux. There is more than likely one for Mac, too. (There are actually like 20 for Linux, but the first one I tried worked, so why keep trying? ![]() I'm not sure about the ToEE, as I don't own that and have never looked to see how it supposed to run. In general, downloading the real *.dll files and putting them in WINE folder hierarchy solves a lot of issues, especially graphics and sound related ones. |
