Blade would still win. With his smooth charming personality, the Blade would appeal to the K/M's ego, buff him up a good bit, get him feeling good, lead him to a bar to buy him some drinks and a good guys night out, meanwhile, something would be slipped into the K/M's drink probably. After drinking him under the table, he would relieve the K/M of any valuables, coins, magical weapons, trinkets, etc, and probably dump the body out in the street, still passed out. Or worse, plant a dagger in his back and dump the body in the sewers.

Now that is a one bad-ass bard.

I'll choose the Blade over the Kensai.

Well, speaking from a roleplaying stand point, any Kensai who forsakes his vows and leaves behind his path of following the sword and chooses magic, well, he probably has self esteem problems. No real Kensai would ever fall from grace, unless something truly awful happened. To become a mage, or, worse, a thief, that would leave the victim (The Kensai) psychologically shattered, something that any well schooled Bard could easily play on. He would lead on the fallen and disgraced Kensai, soothing his ego, stroking his esteem, making him feel better, giving him the much needed comfort the Kensai would be wanting. Then comes the drinks, the robbery, and possibly a murder. Or worse. He could get the Kensai rip roaring drunk and lead him to a tattoo parlour, and, get the words "Look at me, I am a fallen Sword Saint" tattooed acrossed his forehead and then commit the robbery and dump the body out in the streets, leaving the now completely shattered Kensai disgraced in public, said Kensai would probably run away and never show his face in society again, become a hermit, and polymorph squirrels into brain dead stupid women so he could have some much needed companionship. His guilt would lead him to drinking, regretting the day he crossed the Bard. He would die of liver failure. The Bard would find out later some day, score up one more kill on his score card, and, go about to find the next easy mark.

Never cross a capable Bard. You will rue the day you did!

Well Butterfingers, you've got me convinced; I'm gonna try to solo a Blade through BG2:SoA and ToB. Have done a few quests now; Irenicus' dungeon was manageable, though I completely overlooked the fact that with a Constitution of only 12, my Blade only heals 1 hitpoint per 8 hours. Mind you, I had my game settings on "rest until fully healed", and I rested only a few times in the dungeon... Didn't notice I needed to rest 15 days (!) to get fully healed again. So the first thing I did when I left the dungeon was rob Ribald of his Ring of Regeneration, naturally.

Have you got TOB installed? Pickpocket also works in robbing from stores and there are quite a few scrolls available just in the promenade.

On Dundee's advice I had a play and got a blade to level 16 before actually fighting anything (OK, I used DBG).

it really depends on ur style, the blade is good, but its not only a fighter, it has some spells and little thief abilities. the kensai is a fighter, so if u prefer all out melee, choose the kensai. personally, i like blades.
