You can get them both in BGII, I believe... Err, the helm at least.

The cloak is available in BG2, but only with the tactics mod installed. Its loot from one of the new battles.

You just gave me the motivation i needed to continue using the tactic mod.
The initial dungeon with tm installed is giving me quite a bit of trouble X-)
I was actually forced to restart and take Iomen and Jahira into my party to even
have a chance. (-X

There are statues in ToB in Watcher's Keep that awaken and try to kill you. . .
or did you mean the Demon Knight statues in the Kua-Toa Kingdom of the underdark, that awaken and try to kill you too.(Coincidence?I think not!) These are the only statues that actually awaken that I can think of. There is a Statue that asks riddles, and another that blocks a path, and one that gives you a sunstone, and. . . actually that's all I can think of.

There are a few statues who Stone to Flesh can be cast on, but only if you have TOB. And they are fairly late in TOB.
You'll know its them - you won't be the only one looking at them.

Could the original question actually be refering to the part in the game that a 'sacrafice is needed?' Or does that not actually bring the statue to life?

I believe it's in the part of the game when you're exiting the underdark. I may be wrong tho, as I've never done that one.

Doesn't realy bring any statues to life, no. More "creates" a few creatures around the room.
