Sagramore, I don't think there is, but pester the mod makers enough and they may feel up to it. Otherwise they might file a restraining order. But thats a risk your willing to take right?

There IS (in development but already beta AFAIK). Icewind Gate II is a mod that puts the Baldur's Gate II story on the Icewind Gate engine -> better graphics and 3rd ed. rules.
Just to be clear: This is not a BG2 mod but an IWD2 mod.

You also can't be an elf bard, I always play elves but now I am forced to play a half-elf against my will.

You know it! i would go to the big house if it meant that little girls and boys everywhere (and big girls and boys too) could play as Half-Orc mages and Elven Cleric-Rangers! ok, then I have another related question:
if I take my ELVEN (gatekeeper) ranger/cleric through bg, will it crash when i go to bg2?

I think that should be fairly safe.

Ingame the game doesn't care too much about those racial restrictions. It is only in the character creation menu they are enforced.
