Hmmm...let me think...

Yea, losing hit points sounds better than being exhausted. Or maybe no penalty considering the Duelist only gets one?

Maybe a backstab of x2, because even with no multiplier someone can still hide in shadows and backstab all they want.

I don't know.

Either way, I leave both kits to whoever wants to make them. I don't even care if I get credit for coming up with the idea or not.

If someone feels they're good ideas, go ahead and implement them if you want.

With the Dagger Thrower, I'll change that to Enchanted Throwing Daggers they can create instead of Unenchanted Ones acting like Enchanted Ones. These Unenchanted Ones would be non-returnable, but it's the Dagger Throwers Trademark (And they throw faster than returnable one).

Of course, the question would be: should they be sellable or non-sellable?

Why on earth would the Duelist be a Thief kit instead of a Fighter? And the problem with leaning the kit toward any specific weapon(s) or weapon style(s) is that there are all kinds of duels, of which Katana is only one. Take Romeo vs. Tybalt, or Robin Hood vs. Little John, or Lancelot vs. Gawain....etc., etc., etc. What the Duelist should have is some bonuses when fighting in single combat, but unfortunately the game doesn't really support this--the closest thing I can come up with now is giving the Duelist a permanent aura that lowers the Luck and Morale of party members that get too close to him, thus making ganging up on an enemy less practical.

Anyway, the Rapier is an item that would fall under the Katana Category. There are Long Sword Rapiers, Short Sword Rapiers, and Dagger Rapiers.
Uhhhh....what exactly do you mean by that? A weapon cannot be more than 1 type at the same time (but you can play with things, such as making a Tachi by choosing the "Katana" and "Two-Handed" attributes). Personally, I class Rapiers as using the Long Sword proficiency, doing 1D6 Piercing damage, and having a Speed Factor of 2. Pretty much just like a Short Sword, but sexier.

As far as kits go, I've already designed the Shieldbearer, a nicely balanced Fighter kit, that's something of an Anti-Kensai. The specifics are buried somewhere in my Tactics Review thread, I believe.

I'm also toying with this one:
SHARPSHOOTER
Class: Thief
Race: Any
Alignment: Any except Lawful Good

ADVANTAGES:
 • Can reach Mastery (+++) in any missile weapon a Thief can use (Short Bow, Crossbow, Sling, Darts)
 • +1 to THAC0 and Damage with missile weapons every 4 levels
 • Special Ability of Called Shot every 6 levels
DISADVANTAGES:
 • Only 20 Thieving Points to distribute per level
 • Backstab Multiplier capped at x3
A very modest kit, but quite worthwhile, in my opinion. Many's the time I've wished I could trade my Thief's having 150% in every skill for the ability to actually hit something when he shoots.

I couldn't imagine the Duelist as a pure fighter, as well as I thought that the Duelist could just be replaced by the Kensai. (Plus, though Robin Hood was a fighter, he also was a thief ) Although the thief has Swashbuckler for a kit... I did think of maybe having the Duelist as a Bard, but there's the Blade.

In any case, this was just me thinking out loud about kit ideas.

As far as Rapiers, I figured that having thin blades they could fall under Katana, but Long Sword works just as well. With the Katana, though, well I've just been watching too much of the Adolescence of Utena Movie, where Saionji (Spelling Utena fans?) duels with a Katana

I had meant those different names (long sword rapier, short sword rapier, etc.) to illustrate the animations that could be used for Rapiers, as well as the different types. My Sword Knowledge was a little rusty at the time, I should have just gone and researched Rapiers again. (For instance, the Rapier Dagger would just be a typical Parrying Dagger)

The Aura is a very good idea. I can see low-level enemies running from a Duelist.

PS: I like the idea of a Sharpshooter.

The closest thing i have found to a 'new' class was my cleric/mage. I tried to create a char similar to the necromancer from diablo 2. I don't like the mage necromancer class but like the death related spells (summon skellies) from the cleric class. I don't know if this is a possibilty for a new class or just a user controlled multiclass.

Edit.
Class - Necromancer(mage)/cleric

Abilities-

must take necromancy (mage) spells, cannot use opposition school(s)' spells.

can use undead related cleric spells incl. raise dead, but no healing spells.

perm rep decrease (-4) - not trusted by society.

cannot wear armour.

can only use q staff & sling - 1 star only for each.

Would this be implementable?

Actually, the Duelist has already made it into the game as the Swashbuckler. Kind of.

In one of the old optional class kits books, there was the Duelist Thief option. He could gain mastery in long sword, dagger, and dual wielding. He could specialize in anything a thief could use. He was immune to morale failure and would not, nor could not back down from an issued challenge. If he did, he lost his kit bonuses and became a normal thief.

Once for every few levels, he could do a move called Double Strike. On an attack, enemy must save vs death or die.

He had no backstab damage (What honourable Duelist would stab a foe in the back) could not use poisons, and basically could not do anything underhanded and dirty. Most Duelists where of some sort of Lawful Alignment.

Rapiers were unusual PnP weapons because they did two types of damage in the hands of anybody specialized in Long Swords. They did piercing and slashing damage. Player would have to say what sort of attack they were making. "I am thrusting my blade into his heart!" or "I am going to slash a large Q into his chest!"

The Swashie is just a neutered Dualist.

*Cringes at the word "Neutered"*

That Double Strike ability sounds great though.
