The number of people who think it's pronounced Drizzit just boggle my mind, frankly, since in one of the books a kid winds up screaming, "It's a Drizzit!" in terror, and Drizzt is wondering how he got "drizzit" when he'd clearly said Drizzt. There's no 'i' between those two z's and the 't.' It's not that hard.

I'm surprised at how you guys say it. Drizzt rhymes exactly with blitzed for me. I say Do-Urden like "Doo-err-den."

Well, you have to understand too, not everyone has read that far in Salvatore's series on him. I can understand why people can think it's Drizzit though, words do have pronunciations without the letters to do it.

I, too, think it's rather stupid if you think it's supposed to be "drizzit", and wholeheartedly agree with LadyLuthien. And you need not be an expert on Salvatore's work to figure that out

Well, if you look at it from the point of view that the kid actually heard Drizzt say "Drizzit", then it's understandable.

And I can't remember Drizzt once correcting the kid in thoughts or voice. I only remember him standing there in silence as the kid ran away.

As far as there being no I between "zz" and "t", there are some names said that don't sound the way they're spelled.

I have been to a R.A. Salvatore book signing and someone asked him how do you pronounce all of these names? They asked abouot a few names inparticular but Salvatores answer was: It doesn't matter how you pronounce them, as long as you have fun reading about them. or somethin to that effect. Basically he was saying that everyone says the names differently and that it is all good.

So don't worry about it too much and just say it the way you think it sounds best.

Good luck and have fun.

"Drist Doe-URR-den", as per the bibliography on the inside of one of the books.
Well, heheh off of an E-book so unless someone went out of their way to slip this is like its their own, I assume its correct.
But without any guidance, ive gone with Drist DOO-Err-din

It's pronounce John Smith. It's just spelled a little different than what you all are used to.
