Top tens from USA and around the world, and not a single movie that really makes you think. (except for ET perhaps, but even then, not too deeply). I really hate pop.

This is based on $$$$ from the theaters. Not the best quality movies to watch.

I liked Independence Day

Sure it was corny, but some bits were pretty funny

<font color=skyblue>Both of the sources I referenced are current and are identical to a few other websites I have visited that also list theatre $$$. What source are you saying calls Titanic a Billionaire?

Maybe that is including DVD sales???</font>

Titanic did gross more than a billion dollars in sales, and it was already mentioned in the lists in the first post. Refer to the World's Top Ten, not the USA's Top Ten.

This is based on money. Is there any records kept just on pure attendance? that way it would not be so skewered to latest releases.

Ya, if it is not indexed for inflation, movies will always come out that break records.

Thats why every year or so a new movie comes out that 'breaks all box office records for opening weekend'.

I am fairly sure that gone with the wind is among the top three of box office receipts, but it made no money in todays dollars.

If the list isnt indexed for inflation, obviously star wars must have had the most ticket sales. It should have at least.

<font color="#f683ad">SO what has everyone got against Independance Day? Is it because it is a Will Smith movie? (I like him) Is it because it is a movie centered around american triumph? I would think thats kinda silly...It's only a movie. It was a good entertaining movie with great special effects. And judging by the numbers people liked it hence its place on the money board.

Edit: as for Titanic, that movie was aimed at women in general...especialy younginsh ones...and men being intelligent when it comes to their women (yeah right) knew they would earn big points for suffering through this movie and <s>taking advantage of the emmotional women</s> being supportive of the emotional sensitivity of their women. </font>
