There are no RPGs on PS or PS2. And there never will be. For several reasons.
First, the people who play PS and PS2 are action gamers, when is the last time you saw a slow game on a console? The Sims is a real perversion, and it is so diferent from the computer Sims that i think it is actually a prototype engine for Sims 2 for PC.
Second, all the RPGs on PS and PS2 are actually action/adventure games with skill points and experience. Take Baldurs Gate for example. The game is COOL but it's just not a real RPG. It's got three classes so it's closer to diablo in that. All the spells and D&D rules have been perversed into a fast-paced action set. Burning hands burns like a god damn flamethrower!
Third, I don't think PS and PS2 players can't give the game all the needed attention and time to really hook to it. The D&D rules are much too detailed for arcade play, GURPS is too hard to learn and BATTLESYSTEM is too complex to program into a console.

Dude, have you ever being to Asia before? have you ever seen how our RPGs are like? the rpgs overhere is very different than western one. just because it doesn't use D&D doesn't mean it's not an RPG. an RPG don't have to be slow. Ever try playing Jin Yung? or any of it's branch games for example? no? then you are missing a lot of fun.

Kakero's right Bozos of Bones, Western RPG's are very different to the Eastern RPG's as they produce two completely different types of games. The Baldur's Gate series (Western) and the Final Fantasy series (Eastern) are very good examples of the differences in styles between Western and Eastern RPG's.

Don't dismiss Eastern RPG's so quickly. They are as enjoyable, if no more so than there Western counterparts.

I know about eastern RPGs, I've played a lot of them and i especially like the... err... you know... when you find pieces of weapons and combine them in forges... when you can target what part of body you want to hurt... the... well... yes. And i like most of them, but i tell you this: go to a store that sells computer games. The number of true eastern RPGs can be numbered on the fingers on one hand and you still have five fingers left.

nope. When I go to computer shop the number of eastern rpg is more than western rpg. This year alone only Bloodmoon and Gothic 2 came out so far but there are tones of easttern rpg that came out and it's too many for me to list them.

And you live where...?
In Europe, USA, and other countries there are next to no eastern RPGs, virtually non-existent.

Should be obvious, I live in Asia. where eastern rpgs are made and there are lots of them overhere.

probably the reason of why you don't see many eastern rpg overthere is because they are not in english and only few gaming company in the west does the translation thing.

You will not find PC RPGs on console, but you will find RPGs. Final Fantasy X is probably in the top 5 RPGs I've ever played, no doubt, and I'm going to get Suikoden III and Wild Arms III soon. If you think that PS2 RPGs are simplistic with only experience and weapons, you've never seen the Sphere Grid of FFX. Quite honestly, it is the best roleplaying tool I have ever seen. Eastern RPGs have alot of action, no doubt, but, like western RPGs, they are heavily story driven, and there is a huge amount of character playing/customization within.

Just out of curiousity, would Eidos Interactive's rpg/action game Revenant, be considered a western or eastern RPG? Combat style of the PC is distinctly eastern in nature, but that proves nothing.
