Well Drevlin that mage doesnt have the ring of wizardry. To get the ring you should visit a house in the map where the Flaming Fist headquarters are located in Baldurs Gate city.

The Demon Knight at the end encounter of Durlag's Keep was kinda tough. Also, dealing with all of the wolfweres and werewolves on Werewolf Island was tough simply because there were so many of them.

I think that the toughest would have to be during one of my several tries at the end game when I accidentally activated Sarevok and all of his toadies plus a couple of battle horrors all at once...just because I approached from the right side of the temple instead of the left. That was dicey.

anyway as soon as you enter there are some darn hard doom guards and about 4 invisible doom guards. hard stuff but probably nothing compared to TOTSC
I to don't have TOTSC and I think this fight was one of the hardest in BG1.

I thought the baddy in Ulgost Beard was the roughest until I used TraderVix's sugestion. Now I would half to say the 4 elves in Durlegs Tower are the worst besides the final baddy in the game.

Elves!? errrr, no, they are dwarves. I was VERY ready for that fight, so it was rather easy for me (3 fighters with all kinds of spell up, like bless, chant, haste, Defence harmony) plus summoned about 16 skeletons. SO far the most challenging fight was with AecLetec (untill I found a good strategy). Also fighting all the cultists was rather hard because all my guys were fatigued.

The four dwarven spirits in Durlad's Tower were really tough. Also trying to fight Sarevok, and his friends in full-blown combat was difficult. The Demon Knight was easy to me as he used a simple pattern - fireball, dispel magic, or melee over and over again.

When I first played, I thought it was Tarnesh that you fight right before you enter the Inn At Friendly Arms.. I could never get by him...Until someone told me to pause the game, equip wand of (I forgot the wand imoen has) and hit him with that, then go attack him...I died like 200 times before..
