North America the contenent is North America, North America as in the USA is Yank-Land, and out term for an American is a 'yank' just like someone from Australia is Aussie, someone from Britain is a Pom, and someone from New Zealand ia a Kiwi. Within their specific coutries, these terms may have a more specific meaning, but to us at least they refer to any citezin of the country in question.
