If you want to make your own opinion, you can read the "Rebuilding America's Defences" document here.

It is on the site of the Project for the New American Century.

I have read this document and others from this site, and personnally I find what these people say troubling. As someone's sig said : "It is not because I am paranoïd that there isn't someone outside waiting to get me" or something like it ...

I am not saying that IMO a conspiracy is what happened. I am also not saying that it is not what happened - distasteful as it is, it is a possibility. Only that this needs keeping in mind and watching - hopefully history will tell ...

I almost posted those links a few months ago, in the War Forum - but then I figured how that would have been met, what with me being a Freedom girl and all.

Freedom girl. Har. Thanks for an early-morning laugh.

Just be French. It's more intriguing.

Oh, and the proper phrasing is: "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me," I think.

Question Mark

Thank you for the link, Moiraine.

I don't think my government was directly involved in the attacks of 11 Sept 2001 as far as planning is concerned, but I am cynical enough to believe that they chose inaction in order to let the attacks have maximum effect. Besides, I always enjoy a good conspiracy theory.

That being said, at least we have a plan for the future. It would be a shame to think that we were just "winging it" with no overall direction. Besides, like I have said elsewhere, why shouldn't we exert some influence and gain some real benefit from the position we currently have? An American Empire might not the be best thing ever to happen, but it would certainly be considerably better than many that have come before. Besides, I get annoyed sometimes at our detractors who think that anything to do with America is somehow immoral or inherently evil.
In short, so what if we have a plan to "take over the world"? There isn't anyone who can really stop us if we put our minds to it. Since I am American, my support for this is reasonable because I and my family would benefit. Read my sig--Novus Ordo Seclorum means our New World Order.

Another nutty leftist European politician. Is there something in the water there to cause this? You people seem to have even more than we do.

He may have gone off the rails on this issue *somewhat* but maybe YOUR country could benifit from a taste of honest socialism and politicians who have the guts to break from the party diatribe.

I disagree with Meecher totaly on this issue, but it IS refreshing to see a member of the Govt. stand up and shout about something he sees as wrong and is prepared to resign in protest. Long may that something in the water continue

THE Oldham MP at the centre of a worldwide storm, after saying America may have deliberately allowed the September 11 attacks to happen, has hit back at critics.

Michael Meacher said today his views were being twisted by the media.

He called some of the coverage scurrilous and said his claims about 9/11 had been grossly misrepresented.

The MP for Oldham West and Royton insisted: “I did not say and have never said that the US Government connived at the 9/11 attacks, or deliberately allowed them to happen.”

Instead, he claimed his points were that:

US foreign policy has been driven less by the war on terror than by a blueprint for US global domination;

that 9/11 gave the US government a “convenient pretext” to launch long-planned attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq, and that those wars were designed to secure oil supplies.

The under-fire MP said: “I simply laid out the evidence collected from a very large number of reputable sources, all of which are already in the public domain, in each case identifying the source so that anyone could check it.

“Every statement made is securely anchored in fact.”

Among these statements, made in his original controversial article, were suggestions “US air security operations [could] have been deliberately stood-down on September 11” and claims that “No serious attempt has ever been made to catch Bin Laden”.

But this morning Mr Meacher said: “I have never been a conspiracy theorist and have always been one of those who believes that a cock-up is in the great majority of cases a more likely explanation.

“But given that the US and UK have recently been engaged in two wars and are still entangled in the aftermath, I do believe it is right to raise legitimate issues about the causes and background of those wars and to demand answers to questions where there is an overriding public interest to establish the full facts.”

But his clarification is unlikely to satisfy critics, who have branded him “a loony”.

Despite his being a former minister in the Labour government, Downing Street has largely refused to comment on Mr Meacher’s claims, pointing out he is a backbench MP and not their responsibility.

But fellow Oldham MP and government member Phil Woolas has made clear he “strongly disagrees” with his colleague’s views.

From the Oldham Chronicle.

Reading more of the pommy British papers it seems as some mischievous git has twisted and misrepresented his words. Looks like the agents of the anti green/ socialist coalition have just permanently crucified yet another victim

I have to agree with TL on this one. I usually spend my political time working for whatever party is out of power so we can throw those crooks and rascals in Washington out on their ear. Then I start in on the new crop of "evil" politicians.
Yet when I'm in this forum I get the same feeling from the left that I get while heckling a John Birch Society meeting.
Pllleeease make up your minds! Hate Bush because he is an idiot or an evil mastermind but not both. He can't be both! When you keep changing it makes me want to defend him even when I don't agree.

Why would we want to have anything to do with socialism? It's going to bankrupt your countries one day. Especially with socialised medicine as your population gets older.

That's why countries with an ageing population need a steady supply of immigrants.
