From lvls 1-9 you get the HP like it is said in the game manual, but once you're at lvl 10 you get a set amount of HP.
Fighters (Pal/Rang etc) get 3 HP Clerics get 2 (IIRC) Thieves/Mages get 1 If you got 10 HP per level all the way up to lvl 30 etc, you'd have WAY too many HP

What Kezardin and Bristowe said, with a couple of slight differences.
At Level Ten and above: All Warriors (Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger) get 3 hp per level, All Priests (Cleric, Druid, Monk) get 2 hp per level, All Wizards (Mage, Sorcerer) get 1 hp per level. At Level Eleven and above: All Rogues (Bard, Thief) get 2 hp per level.
