Melf's Minute Meteors
Hi gang:

I've never learned exactly how this thing works. I have it in my mage's book and added it as a quick spell. I clicked on it during combat but nothing appeared to be happening?

So what gives? Is it the casting time? I didn't see anything appear in inventory for him to throw either.
Thanks!

Hmmmm? When you cast Melf's Minute Meteors, your Mage should start a casting animation. Do not interrupt it by moving him/her around or giving him another order! It takes some time. When he/she is done, your Mage's Weapon Quickslots should be replaced with the minute meteors.

I highly advise people to set autopause to trigger when a spell is done casting. This eliminates the question of whether or not, a spell has been finished casting.

Problem solved - I recall having my quickslots filled with either potions or scrolls when I cast these from a quickspell slot.

Wha?

Melf's Minute Meteors replaces your Weapon Quickslots, not your Item Quickslots.

Are you telling me that I have to leave my weapon quickslots open to have this spell work? Those icons towards the lower bottom left side of the screen where you would stick a sword, bow, or leave blank for fist?

(Mages might want to remember to put their ranged weapon in the first slot, otherwise, you may find them wandering into melee with their staff when they run out of minute missiles!)

No, you need not leave them empty. They overlap over the weapons, so you cannot use the, let say Quarterstaff, until you finish all the MMMs or dispel them away.

Let's take Knock...normally a useless spell, since a thief can open a lot of doors or chests. What if you decide to play without a thief? Knock gets useful then, doesn't it.
I can honestly say I've never used "Knock", or "Divine Traps" either...although I can see where a non-thief solo character might find them rather useful.

Here's another one - Emotion. Useless? Try casting it at the group of adventurers at the Den of the Seven Vales. With it you will defeat them even if your party is low-level.

Another one - Stoneskin. Makes your impervious to backstab.

It all depends on the situation.
"Emotion" I use regularly...7 Vales, Maevar's Guild, the party of adventurers in the Temple Sewers. It's great! Nothing like being able to whack on a prone person.

And I can say for certain that I used "Stoneskin" all the way through ToB, even at the final battle. I always memorize two of the spells; one to cast before doing anything, and one to use in a contingency (Chain contingency is great for this in ToB!)

Spells I rarely use are those like Flesh to Stone, Cone of Cold, and Imprisonment, since if the opponent is petrified, frozen, or imprisoned, you lose all or most of the great stuff they had on them! Same goes for Maze.

Sazerac, you do not lose loot when you use Maze, since the effect is only temporary. However, the reason why I do not use it is because... I rather memorise Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings.

Some players do use it though, to temporarily take out an opponent out of the fight.

for a cheaper version of maze try otilukes resilient sphere, while it does make them immune to damage, i noticed, at least in bg1/ToSC that you could poison people help by it, ie poison daggers, arrows/bolts of biting, or anything else that poisons a poor stupid monster
