to correct punishment for this crime would obviously be: death by public poking with spoons!

this crime is worse than anything saddam can possibly do i think. she abuses her power of making infomercials.

I agree that people's stupidity is their own fault and problem. When making such commercials, the makers are always very careful to cover every square inch of their asses in legal terms. Homer is probably right, they never actually say they got the stuff from their scheme. If they show some rich people and then they tell you about the scheme people will make the link themselves without the makers saying anything. That is manipulative, sure, but not a crime IMO, it is the people's fault for letting themselves make non-existant links.

Did they make the claim that you can get all this stuff from just watching the video?
If not, I dont see the crime. Free enterprise goes a long way. There is no crime in implication. Just promises that arent kept.

"The Devil is in the details." If no claim is made about concrete amounts to be made, then I fail to se the fraud, from all I know about it. It amounts to the same as those soft drink commercials where everyone is young and atractive and partying like they just graduated law school.

Okay! In the UK this would probably be dealt with under the Trades Description Act and she would probably face a hefty fine. In fact this woman doesn't live in the UK and is currently serving a term of 24 years imprisonment with NO parole!!!

The TV standards people would decide- and if aired it is ok. You could take this further and say "I don't look like celebrity Y" after watching an advert about how some cosmetic cream made them lose wrinkles, or that signing up with insurance hasn't got you a brilliant car that fell from the sky.

I would say the idea is fine, that she doesn't deserve punishment. The example could beused for lots of adverts, such as why Mr Sheen isn't polishing my house right now. Or a duck cleaning the toilets.
