Straight edge was born back in the day- early-mid 80s. AFAIK- Ian McKay of Minor Threat and later Fugazi coined the term to describe a "punk rock lifestyle" that did not include drugs or alcohol, or even sex for some.

While I LOVE Fugazi (one of the best shows I have had the honor of attending and the album 13 Songs is a classic IMHO)!) and enjoy Minor Threat- I have never been straight edge.
