What I really hate is that if you one cool spell that does um turn people into frogs and another narly spell that you can shoot a slimeball that explodes into Horrid Wilting! I would choose spell slimeball of corse. But I also want the spell that turn people into frogs. I have to wait for the next level to get that blasted spell! If you are a mage you can learn and LEARN new spells more and MoRE AND MORE!!!!! and MORE!!! Having a wide variety of spells are great!

Refer to my earlier post. There is no point knowing more spells if you do not end up using most of them. Also, with a proper spell list, you will be efficient irregardless of your level. I strive for brutal efficiency, and a Sorcerer serves this purpose very well.

Mages may not memorize as much as a Sorceror but they have more spells to try out and use in a variety of situaitons.(Sorceros too by the sacred unholy lazy art of CHEATING)

May not cast as much you mean.

But a mage can be like a sorceror for a while you know how. You can buy of steal and find 50 scrolls use em over and over again. But that is kinda like cheap. If you know what you are up against Woo hoo good for you can memorize a spell that can turn the tide in a situaiton! Like for example if you are going to fight a bloody dragon! I reaaaaally wanted to fight the Silver Dragon I was a sorceror back then and I had some Ice Spells. I didn't think of using the spell that lowers magic reisistance. A mage can get a scroll of that use it a volia you memorize it!

You speak as though obtaining 50+ scrolls is an easy task, if not impossible. Again, with a proper spell list, a Sorcerer can handle any situation, anytime. Dragon fights are a regular 1-3 rounds affair for me, using either a Mage or a Sorcerer. The difference is, I can afford to miscast a few times with the Sorcerer. A Sorcerer can easily unleash 6-9( depending on equipment) full volleys( all spells from spell level 1-9) of spell barrages consecutively, and this is the bare minimum... Theorectically, it is infinite if necessary. A Mage cannot match the output save through cheating.

But mages get off at a very rocky start when the Sorceror can hop on the mages head jump off and go up the rocks with ease. But the mage will grow strogner and run faster and almost catch up with the sorceror who is also learning new spells but at a much slower rate. The mage will then kick the little Sorceror on the ground to eat dirt and the mage will run away!

Actually, at higher levels, the Sorcerer simply dwarves the Mage in terms of pure raw power. If you want to include ToB... ...

Still I am going to by TOB and play as a wild mage whatever that is. If wild Mage isn't good I am going to play a necromancer mage!!!
LONG LIVE ARCANE

Woooooooooooooo

Oh, Wild Mages are fun. They are my third choice of spellcasters, after the Sorcerer and the Necromancer.

Blood of a God/Dragon actually, according to the class description. Which ties in nicely with the storyline. The PC being a Bhaalspawn and all.

The way I see it, Mages are better for someone who is new to the spell system, and would need to be able to just learn a new spell if they find that what they`ve got doesn`t work.
A sorcerer is better for an experienced player, who knows the spell system like the dirt on their moniter. A sorcerer will end up a better character in the end ONLY if alot of thought is put into the spells they learn.

Ay, compare to the analogy of cars.

Mage -> Jeep
Sorcerer -> F1 Car

The F1 Car is faster, but if you do not know how to use it... it is very likely that you will crash and burn. You got to know how to drive first, then proceed to learn how to master driving.

Can I summarize what Dundee said in a couple of sentences:

Sorcerer = battle mage
Wizard = general mage

Keep in mind with the ubitiqous Load Game option, you can pretty much choose the exact right spells for your mage for any given situation. But that wouldn't be in the spirit of roleplaying now, would it.
