I use gmail, but I still have lots of people that only know my hotmail one. I've been using it for something like 6 years.

Read the message. As far as I can see, it says 3 things:-

1) Existing Hotmail accounts can still be accessed via Outlook/Outlook Express. However, as far as I know, this was never an "officially" supported aspect of Hotmail functionality anyway.

2) Outlook Live is a premium service integrated into MS Office Outlook only. Pay for it or don't - it's your own choice.

3) New free Hotmail accounts will still be available, you just won't be able to access Hotmail via Outlook/Outlook Express.

No big deal.

Yes, it's a big deal for people that like to use Outlook.

Yes, I use pop for my gmail account. But if hotmail can pull this off and make money, don't you think other email companies won't do the same?

I have a question!! Why would someone want to pay $60 to $80 for this? Just leave Outlook separate from your hotmail and use your Outlook for business and personal mail and hotmail for contest, newsletters and all that other Jazz that you just know is going to get junk mail sent your way. If you are an internet subscriber you probably have an e-mail account to use with outlook. If you do this you will not get much junk mail in your outlook account. If people are foolish enough to pay for a service that isn't really needed or required let them, it isn't Microsoft's fault that they can make a boatload of money off people for doing little next to nothing. I mean does it really take a great deal of effort to open up your browser and go to your hotmail account. No Big Deal!!!

Maybe I just have a different mindset. Put it this way.

I currently use Hotmail for free and access it from Outlook Express. No effect on that account.

If I sign up for a new Hotmail account I won't be able to access it directly via Outlook Express. No biggie.

If I want to integrate Hotmail into Outlook, it's going to cost me for a premium service. It's of no use to me so I won't sign up.

Therefore I'm no worse off. As far as I'm concerned I've had and will still have, the use of an e-mail service that costs me nothing. I don't demand that it will always cost me nothing, but while it does, I'm happy to take advantage of it.

I never said it was a good idea..

I said you would [i]love[i] the idea, bassed entirely off your hotmail reaction..

Read it anyway you wish, but irony* would be incorrect in this case, I think you where going to say sarcasim, which is what I was aiming for..

*Irony, is when somthing happens too late, or after it is needed.. IE a heart transplant patient get's a compatible donor five minutes after they have a fatal heart attack (I didn't say it'd be a pleasent example, but illistrates the diffrence quite nicely)

I still don't see the problem here, despite the re-hashing of everyone's points a coupla times

Those who already have hotmail will be unaffected. Those who don't have hotmail will never know the difference. They will have to use a different webmail program if outlook is vital to them.

Nope, he's correct. As are you, but in a more specific instance of it.

The problem here is that any new person that will sign up to hotmail, for whatever reason, will be unable to use outlook to see he's emails.

The person will have to:

1-open the browser, which will open to some unrelated homepage, probably see some annoying adds.
2-Click the hotmail shortcut.
3-See the login page for hotmail, so more useless adds.
4-Have to enter his email and password
5-Get to the useless "home" page, see some more adds.
6-Click on the "inbox" button, see some more add.
7-Go trough the annoying html client to read his email, having to go back and forth between emails, and seeing tons more adds.

While someone using outlook has this to do:

1-Double click the outlook icon.

Maybe I'm not affected by this, but the reason our world is in so bad shape right now is exactly because people do nothing unless something bad happen directly to them. Then they wonder why no one else is helping them...

By the way, I have 6 different email account in my outlook. It's an invaluable program to me.
