Yeah, the funny thing was that when my mum mentioned the idea of buying a place for me to rent from them to my dad, he was like, 'I'd always been interested in investment property, but not having tenants'. Yep, it's a ground floor unit; it's in a block of 12 so it's not too big and the area is fantastic. There are shops just across the street and it's quite quiet and not a really busy road.

I know, Johnny! I have to work out a budget so I know exactly how much I can spend on groceries and everything. My rent is actually less than it would be renting an equivalent place from non-parents (probably 75%), but for me, it's a lot because I don't have a huge income since I just don't have time to work more than I do. So it will be a bit of a culture shock going from living at home where I pay for stuff like my car and clothes and uni bills and so on but not much else, to having to buy everything and pay rent on top of that. Although I won't have to spend so much on petrol, so that's something.

Happy for you Aelia! You will really love having your own place.

My first was an apartment in a highrise, on the 14th floor. The place I worked at was in the same building on the bottom floor, and one of the guys that worked with me lived on the 14th floor, and eventually got fired, so he wanted to move out, but his lease was still current, so it was a sublease kind of deal with me (otherwise I'd never have been able to rent there, my credit was not bad, but non-existent and my pay was not enough to have a lease of my own). Anyways, I moved in, and it was just an efficiency apartment (no bedroom). I had a sofa bed, a small b&w TV, a radio that played cassettes, and my clothes LOL. I guess I was about 20 at the time, and I remember when I was finally moved in and the main lease guy left to Puerto Rico, and that door shut, I literally twirled around in circles with my arms outstretched, I felt so free! I had a space of my own! Of course to pay the rent left me living on $20 a week LOL, ack!

Great news Aelia . Now I am trying to picture whereabouts there are shops in so close to the Uni and I can only think ot two spots. This has me thinking that you can't be all that far from where I was last renting while at UQ.

I keep meaning to write you a letter sometime - I better do something about that soon

Best thing I ever did was moving out of my parents house, I don't regret the hour extra travel to work each way one little bit

I now have a (nearly!) stress-free life. No nagging, some great housemates and I can have as many PC parts littering my room as I like.

Brilliant!

That was pick number 2 on my list . I figured that "Schonny" Drive only had shop singular and the only other place that had shops plural was on that road up from the Admin building over the hills that comes out at the 5 ways. I can't remember the name of that road even though I spent so much time at uni over at a mates house at the top of the hill on that road.

I used to use the 5 Ways shops fairly regularly in 3rd and 4th year . They only built the place at the start of my 2nd year.
